Meridio is a remote-first company on a mission to make health benefits for small businesses simple, affordable, and accessible. We're growing fast — and we need a design leader who can turn complex insurance into delightful experiences.

In this role, you'll own our product design end-to-end: building flows, shaping systems, and working directly with customers to design products people actually want to use. You’ll be hands-on — running research, prototyping, iterating — and also strategic, making sure design decisions move the business forward.

You’ll report directly to our Chief Product Officer.

If you believe great design can make even insurance feel simple, you'll fit right in.

What You'll Do

Own the Design Experience

  • Build and maintain our design system across all products
  • Create flows that make managing healthcare tradeoffs simple
  • Partner with Engineering to ship with quality and consistency

Lead Through Research

  • Run user interviews and usability tests
  • Turn customer feedback into clear, actionable design improvements
  • Use data to validate and refine design decisions

Raise the Bar

  • Set high standards for design quality — and help the team reach them
  • Review and give feedback that makes work stronger
  • Document and share patterns so good design scales

Shape Product Strategy

  • Collaborate with leadership to decide what we build next
  • Use design to solve business and customer problems
  • Present work to stakeholders and customers with clarity and confidence

Lay the Foundation for Future Growth

  • Establish the culture of design at Meridio
  • Create scalable systems that will enable future design hires
  • Mentor teammates on design thinking and user-first practices
What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)
  • Launch account tools for workplace clients and household customers
  • Establish a core UX design system
  • Drive a 10% increase in household activation
  • Reduce workplace account team support tickets by 10%+
  • Improve client satisfaction metrics (NPS/CSAT) through better self-serve design
About You

You’re the kind of person who:

  • Obsesses over making complex things simple
  • Tests designs with real users, not just other designers
  • Believes good design is good business
  • Can back up design decisions with data
  • Knows when to push for polish and when to ship
  • Thrives in fast, remote-first teams
What You Bring
  • 5–7 years designing digital products
  • A portfolio showing how you turned complex problems into simple, usable solutions
  • Experience with design systems and component libraries
  • Track record of shipping products people love
  • Strong skills in Figma, prototyping, and user research
  • Ability to present design work to different audiences
Bonus Points For
  • Experience designing benefits or financial products
  • Background in service design
  • Comfort with AI-based prototyping
  • Early-stage startup experience
  • Formal design education
Compensation & Benefits
  • 401k
  • Remote-first culture with bi-annual in-person off-sites
  • DTO, parental leave, and professional development stipend
Why You’ll Love Working Here
  • Impact you can see — Your work directly helps small businesses access better health benefits for their teams.
  • A team that has your back — We’re collaborative, supportive, and committed to each other’s success.
  • Room to grow — As we scale, so will your opportunities to take on new challenges and leadership responsibilities.

Work from anywhere — Enjoy the flexibility of our remote-first culture while staying connected through regular in-person gatherings.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
