Title: Senior Product Designer

Reports To: Experience Director  - Jonathan Kelly

Experience level: 8+ years

Employment: Full Time

Location: Boston, Princeton, NJ

JOB OVERVIEW

Candyspace is seeking a logical thinker and creative problem solver to join the ever-growing UX & Design team. You will be working alongside a cross functional team of UX/UI designers on projects for global clients, assisting the larger scale product design projects and UX/UI activities.

You are knowledgeable in user-centred design, like solving problems and getting deep into the details. You get under the skin of real user needs and balance them with business requirements to create well rounded solutions. You have a creative mind and are not scared to think outside the box to make your ideas stand out, but you combine that with an eye for detail and precision pixels.

Ideally you would have 8+ yrs of experience working in a product team working on a large product that has been rolled out. Coming from either in-house or agency working on constantly evolving products plus smaller tactical projects.

You will play a leading role in helping Candyspace adopt AI within the design practice, exploring how AI tools and workflows can improve research, ideation, prototyping, delivery and team productivity. You will help identify practical use cases, share knowledge across the team, and contribute to building a progressive, responsible and human centred approach to AI enabled design.

You have experience taking part in pitches, crafting solutions from scoping and proposal stages through to final deployment. You can talk fluently about design principles and architect bespoke approaches or sequences of activities to solve specific user needs and achieve specific client goals.

You will be competent in the Agile process of using Jira to manage workflow, rapid prototyping, getting to the bottom of user needs and balance with business needs, being present in and running workshops. Managing and mentoring junior members of the team will also be a priority.

What you will do:

User research

  • Research advocacy - Champions research and testing as essential to design practice and mentors others in its application.

  • Research & validation - Selects appropriate research methods, plans research phases and designs effective interviews, tests and surveys.

  • Conducting research - Leads interviews confidently, demonstrating emotional intelligence and extracting deep insight.

  • Synthesis - Independently synthesises complex data into clear, strategic insights and coaches others in doing so.

Problem definition and ideation

  • Mapping - Uses mapping strategically to align stakeholders, influence change and redesign services or processes.

  • Ideas generation - Facilitates advanced ideation sessions, selects appropriate techniques and drives creative exploration to validated outcomes.

  • Information architecture

  • Structural focus - Designs scalable IA systems and consistently thinks beyond interfaces to underlying systems.

  • IA & navigation - Produces high quality IA that reduces cognitive load and improves speed of task completion across complex products.

  • IA diagrams - Develops robust IA for complex product ecosystems and clearly communicates rationale.

Wireframing & prototyping

  • Solution design - Designs holistic product solutions from insight through to execution, translating complexity into simplicity.

  • Wireframing - Produces systemised, highly structured wireframes that accelerate UI and reduce ambiguity.

  • Prototyping - Creates sophisticated prototypes simulating complex journeys and logic to enable robust validation.

UI design

  • Look & feel - Defines compelling visual directions rooted in strategy, brand and emotional proposition.

  • Hierarchy & relationships -Establishes coherent design languages with strong hierarchy, consistency and attention to detail.

  • Supporting the UX - Ensures UI consistently strengthens usability, clarity and decision making across the product.

  • Design systems - Designs and evolves design systems, including token structures, scalable components and governance processes.

Accessibility & inclusivity

  • Mindset - Embeds inclusive design principles across projects and promotes accessibility as a strategic priority.

  • Understanding barriers - Demonstrates deep understanding of diverse user barriers and integrates inclusive thinking into system design.

  • Fundamentals - Stays current on accessibility standards and supports the wider team in maintaining best practice.

User empathy & advocacy

  • Empathy - Places people at the centre of all design decisions and mentors others in translating human needs into meaningful products.

  • Connecting with users - Crafts emotionally resonant experiences that balance originality, usability and strategic intent.

  • Advocacy - Confidently advocates for inclusive design and diverse usability testing with clients and stakeholders.

AI proficiency

  • AI enabled design - Uses AI tools confidently to accelerate research, synthesis, ideation, content creation, prototyping and documentation. Understands when to leverage AI for speed and when human judgement is required.

  • Suggesting AI solutions - Understands how AI capabilities can solve user and business problems through automation, personalisation, recommendation engines and intelligent assistance. Able to identify appropriate opportunities for AI within digital products and services.

  • Human centred AI experiences - Understands the principles of transparency, trust, explainability and user control when designing AI powered experiences. Ensures human needs remain at the centre of AI enabled products.

Designing AI experiences

  • Conversational AI design - Experience designing chat based experiences, copilots, assistants or conversational interfaces that help users complete tasks naturally and efficiently.

  • AI agents & multi agent systems - Experience designing workflows involving AI agents, orchestration, task delegation or autonomous systems operating on behalf of users.

  • Human in the loop design - Experience designing products where humans and AI collaborate effectively, balancing automation, oversight, intervention and decision making.

  • AI first product experience - Experience taking AI powered products from discovery and concept development through to validation, launch and optimisation.
