Building the Future of AI UX at HubSpot: A Culture of Collaboration, Curiosity, and Craft

At HubSpot, our AI team is not just researching customers—we’re shaping how businesses and their customers interact with artificial intelligence in helpful, valuable, and intuitive ways. We’re balancing innovation leveraging AI with a strong commitment to delivering real value to our customers.

Our team

Our AI team is growing rapidly— doubling in size this year. This growth is an opportunity to bring in awesome teammates who will help us design in this exciting and highly ambiguous space.

We seek fellow curious, bright, hardworking designers with a high bar for craft. We need dreamers who also move the mountains they see in the way. Because the field is moving at such great speeds, we don’t see ourselves as experts, and are learning AI real-time. We've approached building AI journeyman expertise as a team.

Researching for AI product experiences is exciting and also full of novel research challenges. Many users don’t know what they want from AI, it’s still a technology in search of a problem. Other users are skeptical, worried about or resistant to using AI. Mental models are still evolving and truly helpful quality is difficult to achieve. We’ve embraced the ambiguity in this space by focusing on speedy exploration, scrappy insights and learning from the quickly evolving marketplace.

We expect researchers to be opinionated and have an ownership mindset, approaching product and user questions with innate curiosity and a healthy dose of optimism.

What we’re up to

Last year we launched CoPilot, an AI-powered conversational interface embedded across every page of HubSpot. The promise of CoPilot is a surface that allows any user at any moment to get AI assistance in context. The natural language interface allows the system to meet the users where they are at without needing to be overly technical.

We also invested in our first generation of AI agents. We learned a lot about the challenges and opportunities agents bring, which has allowed us to envision a more sophisticated evolution into an agent platform this year. This will empower both HubSpot and third-party creators to develop agents tailored to their unique use cases.

At INBOUND, we launched the next generation Breeze Assistant, a flagship AI experience built natively into HubSpot for marketers, sales reps, and service professionals. The new Breeze Assistant is available as a standalone mobile and desktop app as well as embedded directly in HubSpot, powered by our unified “AI Brain” that brings rich company and CRM context into every interaction. It’s not just a chatbot or a help desk tool. Breeze Assistant proactively supports your workday preparing you for meetings with full CRM summaries, answering strategic business questions, synthesizing information from across your connected apps, and adapting a personalized experience for every customer.

At its heart, the work we’re doing is about enabling HubSpot users to unlock their full professional potential. By reducing friction, managing complexity, and amplifying creativity, we’re transforming how businesses use AI to achieve their goals. It’s an exciting time to be at the intersection of AI and UX, and we’re just getting started.

UX at HubSpot

What’s not obvious from the outside (yet) is that Product Design at HubSpot is on a multi-year arc of transformation.  From the top there’s a deep commitment to building a research culture that feeds our organizational intuition about our customers. We’re investing in craft across all areas of UX including research. You can see this with the caliber of the people we’re hiring, setting exceptionally high standards, seeking the very best to help our entire organization understand at a core level the opportunities and challenges in this quickly evolving industry.

Our UX team is a passionate and diverse group of more than 200 product designers, content designers, researchers, and design ops folks who build consumer-grade experiences while solving enterprise-level problems. We’re set up to work as equal partners to our peers in product management and engineering. And we design and deliver a crafted experience to our customers by setting a high bar on ease of use. We’re investing deeply in building whole and healthy UX teams across all of our disciplines so we can better solve problems for our customers.

We involve our customers in every step of our development process. And we strive to deliver a B2B product that’s just as easy to use as the best B2C products on the market. When our customers grow, we grow, too!

As a designer, you are:
  • Autonomous & adaptable: You thrive in uncertainty and excel at solving unstructured problems.
  • A strategic systems thinker: You think holistically and can design for multiple personas and use cases.
  • Creative & future-focused: You bring innovative ideas and are eager to try new things, especially in AI.
  • A platform-minded problem-solver You're excited to design tools and frameworks others will build upon.
  • Execution-strong: You bring clarity, influence across functions, and get things done with attention to detail.
  • Skilled in remote collaboration: You've thrived in distributed team environments and can influence effectively from afar.
  • Curious with a growth-mindset: You're eager to learn new technologies and approaches, and can quickly adapt to evolving requirements and market trends

You align with HubSpot’s HEART values (Humble, Empathetic, Adaptable, Remarkable, Transparent). Bonus points if you have experience with complex front-office systems like CRM or omnichannel tools.

One more thing you should know…

There’s a lot of research showing how marginalized groups of people may not apply for jobs unless they meet 100% (or more!) of the qualifications. We also know that many UX folks come from backgrounds with different experiences that might not seem “standard”—and that’s okay! We really value people who bring unique perspectives and add new knowledge to our team.

But you might not feel like you “check all the boxes” as you read this job post. We get it. And we feel these things ourselves, too. But we hope you’ll apply anyway because we’ll take great care in working with you. 🧡

Confidence can sometimes hold us back from applying for a job. But we'll let you in on a secret: there's no such thing as a 'perfect' candidate. HubSpot is a place where everyone can grow. So however you identify and whatever background you bring with you, please apply if this is a role that would make you excited to come into work every day.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
