Kit is an email-first operating system for creators who mean business. We help creators grow and monetize their audience with ease. For coaches, YouTubers, authors, podcasters, and other creatives, there isn't a better marketing hub to rely on to grow audiences, automate email marketing, and sell digital products — all within one platform. More importantly, there isn't a team more committed to helping creators earn a living.
We're on a mission to help creators earn $1 billion using our creator marketing platform. We have always been 100% independent and 100% remote. We are proud to have built a product that our customers love, and we look for people who have enthusiasm and belief in our mission, vision, and values to join our team.
We're also embracing AI thoughtfully — both in how we build and how we hire to ensure our team is adaptable, innovative, and ready for what's next.
The Kit culture is one where emotional intelligence is valued, radical candor is encouraged, and where everyone works together to uphold a set of shared team principles.
Kit is growing, and so are the legal complexities of our business. We’re looking for a Senior Product Counsel to own the entire legal function and serve as a strategic partner across the company. You’ll serve as our first in-house legal hire, partnering closely with the executive team to lead product legal strategy and execution—especially around data, AI & compliance, contracts, and M&A. You’ll help us navigate these areas with clarity, speed, and commercial savvy.
You’ll build the legal backbone of a fast-moving tech company with four revenue streams—including SaaS, digital commerce, and advertising—and a rapidly growing platform for creators. From structuring new monetization models to supporting our scaling App Store expansion, you’ll be at the center of complex, cross-functional problems where product, business, and legal strategy meet—all in service of empowering the next generation of independent creators.
The teamYou’ll report to our VP Operations, Ashley Alexander, and be a strategic partner to leaders across product, sales, finance, and people operations. We’ll continue to work with outside counsel on employment, immigration, tax, real estate, and litigation—but you’ll own our core legal work in-house, and know when and how to pull in expert help.
The workAs our first in-house legal hire, you’ll define what great looks like for legal at Kit, balancing bold innovation with thoughtful risk management. In this role, you will:
- Own and operationalize legal strategy across the business. From contracts to compliance to product guidance, you’ll create a clear, scalable legal foundation that supports Kit’s growth and protects what matters most.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the executive team. You’ll be a key voice in strategic decision-making, helping us weigh risks and opportunities with clarity and speed—especially as we navigate a fast-moving market shaped by AI and data innovation.
- Be a force-multiplier for product velocity. By embedding legal thinking early in the product development process, you’ll help us move faster without cutting corners, particularly in areas like AI, privacy, and data governance.
- Lead complex, cross-functional legal work. Whether it’s M&A, new monetization models, or regulatory shifts, you’ll bring rigor and alignment across teams to help Kit stay proactive and future-ready.
- Scale legal operations that match our ambition. You’ll streamline legal workflows, introduce self-serve tools, and reduce friction across teams—enabling a high-trust, high-speed environment.
Skills
- Deep expertise in data, compliance, and product—this is where you’ll spend most of your time.
- Strong ability to navigate U.S. and European data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), including familiarity with data controller vs. processor distinctions and how they shape vendor and product decisions. This should be one of your superpowers.
- Understanding of intellectual property law, especially related to brand, content, and software
- Understanding of commercial contracts - you’ll become the go-to person for these at Kit.
- Clear communicator, trusted advisor, and thought partner—you’re able to simplify complexity and influence our business strategy
Experiences
- Experience as in-house counsel at a tech company or serving a tech portfolio at a top-tier firm that’s well-known for their work with startups (e.g., Fenwick & West, Cooley)
- M&A experience preferred
- J.D. from an accredited law school in the United States
- Active member in good standing of a State Bar Association
- Pitched revenue-generating ideas and led their delivery to completion cross-functionally
Traits
- Strategic thinker who sees legal as a growth lever, not a blocker
- Business-savvy, curious, and highly perceptive. You quickly grasp the goals and chart the smartest path forward with clarity and confidence.
- Strategic thoughtpartner who can navigate conflict productively
- Deep belief that creator success is our success—you consider both Kit and our customers in every recommendation
- A “how might we” problem-solver who finds creative, business-aligned paths through legal challenges
What won’t set you up for success
- Expecting to build out a large in-house legal team—we’re a lean company covering a broad surface area, and you’ll be our sole legal expert in-house.
- A strongly risk-averse or “no-before-yes” mindset—we need you to help us move, not just stop us from tripping
- Thinking in a legal vacuum—if you’re not factoring in our goals, numbers, or creators, your advice won’t land
- Struggling with speed or ownership—if you prefer long timelines or wait to be told what to do, this won’t be the right environment. We move quickly and expect people to take initiative, spot problems, and drive solutions.
- Needing to be on the executive team in order to see this role as impactful company-wide. We're a lean, flat team where influence is earned through impact.
We're 100% remote with team members across the globe. We work mostly on East Coast time—so if you're based on the West Cost of the United States, Europe, or Asia, you might have a few early mornings or late evenings. We do our best to keep things reasonable, but a little time zone juggling comes with the territory. For this role, we’re looking for someone located in the United States.
