Provide product and commercial legal support for Houzz Pro: advise product, engineering, sales, and marketing on subscriptions, lead generation, compliance (consumer protection, advertising, auto-renewal, privacy), data use, AI issues, and commercial contracts; design scalable contract review processes; enable sales/go-to-market initiatives and escalate high‑risk matters to senior legal leadership.
About the Role
Houzz is seeking a mid-level Senior Product & Commercial Counsel to support Houzz Pro, our innovative SaaS platform for home renovation and construction professionals. This role sits at the intersection of product development, monetization, and regulatory risk, and will be a core legal partner to Product, Engineering, Sales, and Marketing teams.
Houzz Pro is a core growth engine for the company. In this role, you’ll help shape how legal supports a complex, evolving SaaS business, with visibility across high-impact initiatives.
What You’ll Do
- Product & Regulatory Counseling:
- Advise product and engineering teams on new features, launches, and iterations across Houzz Pro, including subscriptions, lead generation, CRM tools, and marketing automation.
- Provide legal guidance to teams on: consumer protection, advertising, disclosures, auto-renewal, AI, pricing, and feature gating.
- Spot regulatory risk early and translate legal requirements into workable product and UX guidance.
- Partner with stakeholders on data use, consent flows, and regional compliance considerations.
- Escalate complex, novel, or high-risk issues to senior legal leadership as appropriate.
- Commercial & Contract Review:
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements supporting Houzz Pro and related business teams.
- Help design scalable contract review and intake processes to support a commercial pipeline.
- Sales Enablement and Go-to-Market Support:
- Act as a legal partner to Sales and Sales Ops for Houzz Pro.
- Support Sales and Marketing teams on customer-facing terms, promos, pilot programs, and new monetization initiatives.
- Advise on sales claims, marketing language, and competitive positioning to ensure accuracy and compliance.
At a Minimum, We’d Like You to Have
- At least 5-7 years of relevant experience, including startup or other in-house experience, preferably at a technology company;
- Experience advising on product launches, including subscription products, or fintech / payments
- Familiarity with subscription laws, auto-renewal laws, advertising regulations and/or privacy basics;
- Interest in AI-enabled products and emerging technology issues
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and making judgment calls with incomplete information;
- Strong communication skills – verbally and in writing. That means you can speak and write in plain English, not only legalese;
- Excellent legal and analytical skills, as well as soft skills such as negotiation and presentation skills;
- An understanding of and enthusiasm for the Houzz Pro platform; and
- A JD and admission to a state bar.
Ideally, You’ll Also Have
- Experience with SaaS, B2B, or tech companies preferred
Compensation, Benefits and Perks
This role has an annual starting salary range of $170,000 - $205,000. In addition to salary, you’re eligible for competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Houzz. Also, depending on the role, you could be eligible for an equity award. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including, but not limited to, skills, experience, and specific work location.
