The Senior Principal Software Engineer provides technical leadership and architectural guidance for building scalable, secure, and high-performing applications. This role goes beyond hands-on coding to include mentoring, solution design, driving best practices across teams, technically guiding and teaching the team, and taking in-sprint delivery responsibilities. Partners with business stakeholders, architects, and other engineering teams to deliver innovative solutions, leveraging modern frameworks, cloud platforms, and emerging technologies.
This Hybrid role requires in-person work at our Newton, MA headquarters.

Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of scalable, secure, and high-performing web and mobile applications.
Apply advanced concepts, theories, and principles to create multi-disciplinary innovations and solutions for complex or risky business situations.
Define and enforce architectural standards, coding best practices, and design patterns.
Provide hands-on development for critical components and guide teams in resolving complex technical challenges.
Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, and UX teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Provide thought leadership to ensure that systems and services are designed and operating to achieve optimal levels of performance, reliability, and sustainability.
Mentor, coach, and technically guide developers during sprints, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to security, compliance, and quality standards.
Drive adoption of software engineering practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
Evaluate and recommend new technologies, frameworks, and tools to improve scalability and performance.
Communicate technical strategies, risks, and project status effectively to leadership and stakeholders.
Champion performance optimization, scalability improvements, and cost-efficient cloud solutions.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field - Required
10 years experience in software development, including at least 2 years in a technical leadership or principal engineer role - Required
Preferred Qualifications
Technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, HTML & CSS, .NET 6, JavaScript frameworks (i.e. Angular version 16 or greater or React), SQL Server, OR equivalent experience.
3+ years’ experience and skills in building cloud-based SaaS applications
1+ year experience and skills in understanding applied GenAI use cases and creating values.
Strong experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
Strong understanding of networks and security principles (i.e. load balancing, DNS, certs, etc.)
Deep knowledge of Azure (or GCP or AWS) PaaS/SaaS services, containerization, and serverless architectures.
Advanced proficiency in front-end technologies: Angular, TypeScript, HTML5, SCSS/CSS, MFE and unit testing frameworks.
Solid understanding of Database systems (Postgres SQL or MongoDB), caching strategies (Redis), and distributed systems.
Expertise with OAuth/OIDC, SAML, and SSO for secure authentication and authorization.
Experience with Azure DevOps (or GCP)/Git-based source control systems.
· Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Compensation
The annual salary for this position is between $174,000 - $218,000 annually. The pay range listed here is what Bright Horizons in good faith anticipates offering for this job opening. Actual compensation offers within this range will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education and training, certifications, geography, and other relevant business or organizational factors.
