• Lead technical direction and execution during the development, construction, commissioning, and operation of utility-scale and distributed renewable energy assets, including BESS, solar+storage, and hybrid systems.
• Serve as the primary electrical engineering point of contact for sophisticated external customers — including hyperscale and colocation data centers, C&I clients, managing technical relationships from early development through commercial operation.
• Ensure all projects meet design standards and maintain high-quality engineering designs. Establish and enforce design standards; provide quality oversight across cross-functional project teams.
• Collaborate with customers, utilities, AHJs, and third-party consultants to support the design and engineering of complex projects.
• Stay abreast of industry developments, new project requirements, and emerging trends to inform project strategies.
• Share technical knowledge by coordinating with cross-functional teams throughout various project phases.
• Deliver design, modeling, and technical support from initial customer solution designs through to successful project implementation and operation.
• Model and optimize engineering designs and review electrical engineering deliverables: single-line diagrams, protection coordination studies, load flow and short circuit analyses, equipment specifications, and interconnection design packages to meet project specifications and regulatory standards.
• Develop preliminary single-line diagrams depicting equipment sizing and MV/HV interconnection topologies.
• Assess and lead interconnection (INTX) strategy across multiple ISOs/RTOs — including application preparation, impact study review, facilities study negotiation, and utility technical coordination.
• Engage directly with utility technical staff, transmission planners, and grid operators to resolve interconnection and protection-related issues.
• Provide technical support to O&M team
Who you are:
• A seasoned electrical engineer with deep power systems expertise who can hold their own in a room with utility protection engineers, ISO technical staff, and data center facilities teams — and earn their trust.
• 8–12+ years of relevant experience in power generation, with a strong focus on MV/HV distribution systems and utility-scale or distributed renewable projects.
• Strong understanding of electrical infrastructure, codes, and standards, including NEC/NFPA, IEEE interconnection standards, and applicable grid codes.
• Experience with Battery storage systems (BESS) with or without PV projects coupled.
• Knowledge on Interconnection Application requirements in multiple ISOs/RTOs (MISO, PJM, etc.).
• Ability to analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions. Demonstrated ability to review, redline, and approve complex engineering drawings, protection studies, and equipment submittals.
• Collaborative and able to work effectively with diverse stakeholders; able to translate complex technical concepts for both engineering teams and non-technical customers.
• A lifelong learner committed to staying ahead of the curve in the rapidly evolving renewable energy landscape.
RequirementsRequirements:
• 8+ years of professional experience working in the renewables industry, with a focus on developing and implementing solutions that accelerate the energy transition, with direct ownership of electrical engineering scope on complex projects.
• Familiarity and hands-on proficiency of renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency measures.
• Experience with energy generation technologies including one or more of the following: solar, wind, battery storage, geothermal, biomass, fuel cells, EV charging.
• Proven experience with utility interconnection processes: applications, impact studies, facilities studies, and utility technical negotiations.
• Proficiency in electrical design and modeling tools; experience with protection coordination, load flow, and short circuit analysis software.
• Working autonomously on deadline-driven projects, your strong analytical and problem-solving skills will ensure on-time delivery to stakeholders.
• Effectively manage multiple projects, consulting engineers and vendors, negotiate contracts and oversee schedules of deliverables.
• Ability to travel to client sites as needed.
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Recommended Extras:
• Professional Engineering (PE) license
• Field experience commissioning distributed generation equipment.
• Experience designing distributed generation, isochronous grids.
• SCADA Protections and Controls Experience.
• Experience working directly with data center clients on electrical infrastructure, redundancy requirements, or utility service design.
• Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems — a plus.
