This position is remote to enhance our competitive edge and expand our cross-functional collaboration efforts. This role will require 25-30% (annually) of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.
This role is dedicated to overseeing Medtronic’s contract manufacturers, ensuring that quality standards, on-time delivery, and cost objectives are consistently met. The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in contract manufacturing, along with proven expertise in Lean Six Sigma methodologies and supplier management. Extensive experience within the medical device industry is highly valued, as is a strong track record of leadership. The position calls for someone who can effectively drive continuous improvement, foster strong supplier relationships, and lead cross-functional teams to achieve business goals.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned: 

  • Primary responsibility is to become the subject matter expert for assigned contract manufacturers. 

  • Utilize knowledge of Medtronic’s networked organization to ensure the proper resources are engaged to address issues raised by assigned contract manufacturers. 

  • Work with the Supply Chain organization and contract manufacturer to prioritize production schedules based on Medtronic needs. 

  • Setup and maintain Operational Reviews with assigned contract manufacturers. 

  • Manage & drive Run the Business activities with Contract Manufacturing operations sites to achieve Quality, Delivery, and Cost performance expectations   

  • Coordinate the establishment and tracking of key metrics at the CM (Quality, Delivery & Cost)  

  • Conduct capacity planning with Contract Manufacturers  

  • Provide manufacturing/operations direction for implementation of sourcing & distribution strategies  

  • Identify and coordinate process improvement projects that have measurable impact on manufacturing quality, cost, and operational efficiency  

  • Makes recommendations on capital expenditures. 

  • Document contract manufacturers’ cost savings ideas for implementation by Medtronic. 

  • Assess contract manufacturer’s current state of operations and develop appropriate improvement plans aligned with MPS processes. 

  • Management Skills: Management of Financial and Material Resources, Critical Thinking, Project Management, Management of Personnel Resources, Collaboration and Productivity Software, Effective Communication Skills. 

  • Functional Skills: Machining and Manufacturing Technologies, Proficient computer skills, Data Science and Analysis, Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement, Managing Quality. 

  • Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies or government regulations.  

  • All other duties as assigned.  

  • Travel requirement: 25-30%  

Minimum Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience 

Nice to Have 

  • 10+ years medical device manufacturing experience or contract manufacturing management

  • Experience in manufacturing and/or manufacturing support functions  

  • Strong communication and presentation skills  

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Medical Device Industry standards  

  • Application experience with Lean Sigma, Six Sigma  

  • Program management experience  

  • Supplier performance management experience  

  • Virtual and matrix management   

  • Experience with project and cost center budgets  

  • Global Collaboration and Engagement experience  

  • Certified Six Sigma Black Belt   

  • Excellent x-functional leadership, cross-geography & interpersonal skills  

  • High customer focus and understanding of customer needs  

  • Solid Financials Skills  

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills  

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of employees  

  • Technically competent and able to provide clear direction to engineers and technicians

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$136,000.00 - $204,000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
