WHO WE ARE

We’re Hook—an award-winning creative content agency. With a collaborative, maker-centric team, and an emphasis on production-led design, we make ads, campaigns, and experiences that drive growth for the world’s most innovative brands.

Our mission is to integrate creative and production to help grow brands faster. But we believe what’s most important are the people who work with us and the experience they have along the way. We want clients to think of us as the best agency they’ve ever worked with, and we want everyone at Hook to feel like this is the best job they’ve had yet.

WHAT’S A SENIOR MOTION DESIGNER AT HOOK?

Senior Motion Designers are passionate animators who bring visuals and narratives to life through their expert knowledge of animation principles, their proficiency with motion design and video editing tools, and their ability to lead complex projects. They utilize their craft and inquisitive nature to elevate the motion work done at Hook, while always learning and growing their skills. While familiarity with 3D is a plus, this role is centered on high-level 2D motion design and design-driven storytelling.

Senior Motion Designers work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, consisting of visual designers, producers and creatives. They use their motion expertise to help the team solve creative and technical challenges. On small projects they may be the sole motion designer while on larger projects they might provide guidance and oversight to additional animators.

Within the Motion Department, Senior Motion Designers are looked to as role models and standard-bearers for work-quality and professionalism. They actively participate in training and mentoring more junior designers, and they seek to build and uphold our growth-oriented culture.

As this team is primarily based on the East Coast, this person must be able to be available to work EST hours.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Collaborate with Design and Creative teams to deliver motion projects that exceed client expectations, offering an informed perspective on how motion can solve strategic brand challenges.
  • Partner with and oversee other motion designers on complex projects.
  • Leverage knowledge of 2D animation, editing and post-production tools (e.g., Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere) to consistently produce top-quality work.
  • Adapt quickly to evolving tools and workflows, contributing to scalable templates and best practices that keep projects efficient.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple workstreams at once, while demonstrating an ability to stay organized and focused.
  • Respond to client feedback with thoughtful solutions that solve underlying creative challenges.
  • Communicate clearly and frequently with teammates to maintain project cohesion.
  • Explore and experiment with AI technologies to enhance motion design workflows and creative output.
  • Support a culture of learning and mentorship, sharing techniques and inspiration to enrich the department and organization.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • A thorough understanding of the 12 Principles of Animation.
  • The proven ability to lead small teams of animators on complex projects.
  • Expert proficiency in After Effects.
  • Working knowledge of Premiere, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Figma.
  • Experience with Cinema 4D, 3D workflows, AI-assisted design/animation tools, or audio editing software (e.g., Audition) is a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of various video & audio formats and when to use them.
  • A thorough understanding of project management and motion production workflow.
  • A strong motion reel or portfolio that demonstrates your abilities as an animator and video editor.
  • Creative curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to experiment with new animation methods as needs arise.
  • A friendly, collaborative attitude.
