CyrusOne seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer, Operations Engineering focused on Datacenter Operations that will play a critical role in setting standards for designs of datacenter cooling systems, assist in the implementation of new systems and replacement of existing, and review and development of maintenance practices for mechanical systems and infrastructure that support data centers. This position will ensure that systems like HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), cooling, water management, and energy efficiency are optimized for performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

Responsibilities:
  • Design & Development: Lead the design of mechanical systems to support data center operations, focusing on HVAC, cooling, and overall thermal management.
  • Infrastructure Optimization: Oversee the optimization of mechanical infrastructure, ensuring reliability and efficiency in line with energy sustainability goals.
  • Capacity Planning: Work with cross-functional teams to plan and implement systems for scalable growth, ensuring that mechanical systems meet the increasing demands of data processing.
  • Operational Support: Provide technical leadership in day-to-day operations, identifying and resolving issues in mechanical systems and offering proactive solutions.
  • Energy Efficiency & Sustainability: Develop and promote initiatives to reduce the energy consumption and carbon footprint of data center facilities.
  • Project Management: Manage large-scale projects, from initial design through to installation and commissioning, ensuring timely delivery, cost control, and quality standards.
  • Vendor Management: Work with suppliers and contractors to source equipment and materials, ensuring compliance with specifications, industry standards, and budget constraints.
  • Collaboration & Leadership: Lead a team of engineers and collaborate with other departments, including electrical and civil engineering teams, as well as IT and facilities management.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure that all mechanical systems comply with relevant regulations, safety standards, and best practices in the industry.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 12+ years in mechanical engineering, specifically in data centers, facilities management, or critical infrastructure environments.
  • Project Management Skills: Experience in managing multi-disciplinary projects, including budget management and stakeholder communication.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to diagnose and solve complex mechanical issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor junior engineers.
  • Sustainability Focus: Knowledge of energy-efficient and sustainable technologies applied to large-scale data centers.
  • This role requires a combination of engineering expertise, leadership, and a deep understanding of data center operations to ensure the reliability, sustainability, and efficiency of the systems that power critical IT infrastructure.
  • Excellent communication skills from verbal and written formats and able to explain highly technical information in ways that anyone can understand.
  • Able to manage ~25% travel

Education / Certifications:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • Evidence of Technical Knowledge: Expertise in HVAC, cooling systems, chilled water systems, and mechanical infrastructure within high-performance computing environments.
