Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Manager of Platform Engineering & Reliability to lead the strategic evolution of our customer-facing, multi-tenant SaaS product infrastructure. This is a pivotal leadership opportunity for candidates who have a demonstrated ability to transform operational practices and redefine how services are delivered.
Your primary mission is to lead a high-performing team responsible for our hybrid cloud environment, which is currently centered in our private data centers. You will be tasked with optimizing our private cloud for maximum performance and efficiency while developing and executing a strategy to appropriately increase our public cloud footprint. You will break down silos between infrastructure and development, fostering a modern SRE culture where reliability is a shared responsibility.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a proven track record of transforming infrastructure, scaling teams, and driving operational excellence through automation, data-driven insights, and a relentless focus on reliability. This high-impact role spans infrastructure strategy, incident management, observability, compliance, and team development, ensuring we stay ahead of the business's rapid growth and ever-changing technologies.
What You'll Do:
Own the reliability of the platform by guaranteeing 24x7x365 availability, meeting SLAs/SLOs, and leading a resilient incident response process that emphasizes blameless postmortems and continuous learning.
Own our private data center operations — including compute, storage, networking, lifecycle management, and vendor engagement.
Own our hybrid cloud strategy, tailored to our organization’s needs. Lead the execution of this strategy to strike the optimum balance between our private and public cloud workloads.
Build and mentor a high-performing SRE team, fostering a culture of ownership and breaking down silos by deeply embedding reliability principles and practices within the software development lifecycle.
Drive a culture of modern engineering by implementing robust automation, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, and a comprehensive observability stack (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK) to improve system reliability and velocity.
Manage all operational governance, including owning the team's budget, overseeing vendor relationships, and ensuring all infrastructure meets strict compliance standards like SOC 2, HIPAA, and FedRAMP.
Develop close ties with Motorola Solutions’ corporate infrastructure organization. Adopt relevant corporate practices and toolsets so that your team may focus on needs unique to our business unit.
What You'll Bring:
10+ years in infrastructure, SRE, or platform engineering; 5+ years in technical leadership (management) roles.
An ability to lead by example, making decisions and eliminating roadblocks through the effective application of deep, hands-on knowledge.
Demonstrated success operating and scaling customer-facing, multi-tenant SaaS platforms in 24x7x365 environments.
Deep expertise in private data center infrastructure — server, storage, networking, capacity planning.
Strong foundation in SRE principles, including SLO/SLI frameworks, toil reduction, and incident management.
Hands-on experience with hybrid cloud, container orchestration, CI/CD, and observability tooling.
Skilled in automation and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Python, Bash).
Experience navigating regulated environments like HIPAA, SOC 2, FedRAMP.
Proven ability to lead through ambiguity, drive transformation, and influence across functions.
Experience with vendor management, including budgeting, payments, relationship management, and renewals.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Primary Skillsets & Technical Depth:
Cloud Platforms: AWS, Azure
Private Data Center Operations: Compute, networking, virtualization, capacity planning, vendor management
