Global Marketing & Communications at FactSet focuses on driving awareness and demand for FactSet’s current and future solutions in support of company revenue goals. The Senior Manager of External Communications oversees FactSet’s media and public relations as well as agency partnership oversight. This role manages FactSet’s reputation in the market, leading communications strategies and campaigns to amplify our go-to-market (GTM) efforts and elevate our executive spokespeople externally. This role requires a forward-thinking professional who can craft compelling narratives, secure top-tier media placements, and leverage multiple channels and innovative approaches to position FactSet as a thought leader in the finance and technology industries.
Candidates should demonstrate a strong background in public relations and executive communications, with proven experience building strategies for corporate and executive social media presence, as well as experience integrating PR strategies within broader marketing campaigns. This position will play a critical role in ensuring FactSet’s external messaging is cohesive, impactful, and future-focused.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with external public relations/communications agency to develop and implement comprehensive PR strategies that align with business goals and enhance brand visibility in target markets.
- Manage a team of professionals individually responsible for PR and earnings analysis content.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with industry journalists, editors, and influencers to secure high-impact media coverage.
- Oversee the creation of press materials, including press releases, statements, and pitches, tailored to industry-specific audiences.
- Position company spokespeople and executives as industry leaders by identifying opportunities to increase visibility, including speaking engagements, bylined articles, media interviews, podcast appearances, roundtable discussions, etc. Deliver media training and craft tailored messaging frameworks for spokespeople, ensuring alignment with industry themes and subject matter expertise.
- Proactively identify storytelling opportunities within trends and news cycles to boost key narratives.
- Partner with FactSet’s Demand Generation & Digital team, including our blog and podcast manager, to ensure cohesive messaging across FactSet’s owned channels and media outreach.
- Support the development and implementation of crisis response plans, conduct risk assessments, and monitor and mitigate reputational challenges.
- Ensure team is in position to analyze coverage, sentiment, and engagement metrics across traditional media and in alignment with social media, and provide recommendations to improve future efforts and demonstrate the impact of external communication initiatives in overall campaigns.
- Work closely with product marketers, internal communications, and other marketing colleagues, as well as internal SMEs, investor relations specialists, third-party partners, and other stakeholders to ensure cohesive messaging and support strategic initiatives.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Business, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of demonstrated professional experience in in-house or agency PR/media relations or B2B marketing.
- Proven ability to secure media placements in Tier 1 publications and cultivate relationships with journalists, with experience working with financial and technology media outlets and media relationship management.
- Experience in managing executive communications, including media training, interview preparation, and crafting messaging frameworks directly for and with the C-suite.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and report on performance.
- Demonstrated understanding of role of PR and social media along customer journey, including familiarity with marketing automation, digital channels, and analytics.
- Superior writing skills with the ability to articulate messages that resonate with the press. Passionate about quality with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional, global teams.
- Experience and aptitude for managing and nurturing growth and development for a team of junior- to senior-level employees.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism.
- Knowledge of FactSet or competitive product/solutions preferred, existing relevant media contacts, and experience managing a public/media relations agency relationship.
The budgeted base salary for this position in the state of Connecticut and in New York City is $120,000-150,000.
