C.H Robinson is seeking a Senior Manager Data Science - Digital Brokerage Practice who will lead the advanced capabilities in the domain of algorithm design and development to cross-functionally support several product initiatives in our 50+ member data science team. You will help us to carry out our 18 million organizational shipments a year by connecting a diverse carrier and customer marketplace through our industry-leading technology and freight matching ecosystem. As a Senior Manager, you will provide technical and scientific leadership on modeling/ algorithm-based solutions for our toughest and most complex supply chain problems. The Senior Manager Data Science is an expert that can modify and scale existing modeling pipelines or build novel ones where standard “plug and play” solutions are sub-optimal. You will also work with respective teams across the enterprise to take these technologies to production. We value rapid prototyping and speed to impact as core tenants of our R&D based culture.
 

The Senior Manager Data Science will solve tough data science problems and deliver impactful solutions. They will also have a strong mathematical/programming background that can help early-career data scientists understand the impact of their work and navigate the algorithm development lifecycle. You also must be proficient in areas of hands-on data exploration, communication with business/technology partners, product needs for delivering to market, and pushing organizational boundaries to achieve impact. This is a dual role, managing a blend of data scientists and engineers to deliver value-based solutions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of this position consists of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage a high performing team spanning multiple products/areas - monitor health, sustainability, cross team dynamics, value delivered
  • Drive development of algorithm capabilities in the supply chain space
  • Own team outcomes and project success & impact
  • Work with product leadership team to identify, scope & assign tasks and projects
  • Engage in higher-level business processes (Quarterly Business Reviews, etc) and advocate for team success
  • Be a voice of expertise in algorithm design/architecture and data science knowledge and know-how, while working to grow junior team members as subject-matter experts
  • Embrace an R&D mindset through Rapid Prototyping & Iterative Experimentation
  • Serve as an escalation point for supervisory staff and complex business requests
  • Develop strategic relationships with the business to understand goals and strategy to help influence and bring data strategies to life
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to establish a pipeline, recruit, select, and onboard qualified and diverse talent while owing team hiring efforts
  • Manage annual merit and equity programs for assigned team to align compensation with performance results
  • Outline employee role accountabilities and expectations; manage performance to drive the right behaviors and improve results and provide useful real-time coaching, feedback, and mentoring, development activities and stretch assignments; support employees with problem resolution
  • Encourage employee feedback through formal and informal channels
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned according to the team and/or country specific requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters or graduate degree in a quantitative discipline and 4+ years’ work experience, or bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline and 7+ years of equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of people leadership experience, and leading cross-functional
  • Experience in programming & modeling: R and Python
  • Experience with Advanced Algorithm & Optimization Techniques
  • Experience with Agentic Coding
  • Proficiency with Linux Operating Systems & Containerization
  • Recognized expert in your field of study

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in a quantitative discipline
  • Experience with relational databases and fundamentals
  • Experience with application development frameworks in the python/R ecosystem (FastApi, Streamlit, Shiny)
  • Experience with version control (Git, Github)
  • Proven ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and out-of-the-box thinking

Compensation Range

$127,500.00 - $295,900.00

The base pay range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum base pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Your individual base pay within this range is determined by work location, which takes into account geographic cost of labor, and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base pay only and do not include additional variable compensation.
