The Role:
In this role, you will lead the development and execution of integrated growth plans and investment cases for corporate strategic initiatives. You will play a central role in Moderna’s annual long-range planning, owning and evolving the enterprise value model and driving associated analytics, including the use of advanced tools and AI to enhance workflows, insight generation, and decision-making.
The position sits at the center of enterprise decision-making, partnering closely with R&D, commercial, finance, and BD teams to ensure a consistent view of value, risk, and resource allocation. You will synthesize complex inputs into clear, decision-oriented insights for senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
The successful candidate will operate in a business-critical function, leveraging life sciences expertise, strong financial modeling capabilities, and sound judgment to evaluate strategic alternatives and inform capital allocation decisions.
Here’s What You’ll Do:
Own and evolve Moderna’s enterprise value model, including structure, assumptions, and scenario design
Lead analyses for long-range planning, business reviews, strategic initiatives, and Board deliverables
Design planning scenarios and translate them into financial, strategic, and capital allocation implications
Develop clear, decision-oriented narratives for senior leadership and Board discussions
Build capital allocation frameworks and evaluate internal and external investment opportunities
Integrate inputs across R&D, commercial, finance, and BD to maintain a consistent enterprise view
Serve as the analytics lead on key projects, driving fact-based insights and recommendations
Support diligence and partner with BD, R&D strategy, and therapeutic areas to build investment cases
Operate effectively under uncertainty, forming structured views with incomplete and evolving data
Analyze peer companies, market dynamics, and valuation benchmarks
Support ad hoc strategic initiatives as needed
Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)
4+ years of biotech or pharma experience in investment banking, private equity, management consulting, corporate finance, or corporate development/strategy
Bachelor’s degree
Strong understanding of valuation, capital allocation, and financial evaluation frameworks
Experience building and maintaining complex financial models for strategic planning or portfolio decisions
Experience leveraging AI and advanced tools to enhance analytical workflows, improve efficiency, and generate insights
Ability to translate scientific and clinical assumptions into financial outcomes and strategic implications
Strong judgment and ability to balance analytical rigor with speed and decision relevance
Advanced financial modeling and analytical capabilities
Knowledge of biotech fundamentals (e.g., development risk, portfolio prioritization, regulatory and IP considerations)
Transaction experience (e.g., BD/M&A, investment banking, private equity, or related fields)
Familiarity with industry data sources
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage across levels
