We're continuing to invest heavily in building the best creator platform with the best team in the creator economy and are looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to support our mission.

This is a remote role.

About the Team

This role is part of the Safety Engineering team at Patreon. Safety Engineering is responsible for using engineering techniques to reduce risks to creators, fans, and Patreon. This includes content moderation, fraud detection, and account integrity. You’ll be joining a team with established machine learning engineers, with experience putting ML models into production to drive real impact. We partner closely with policy and Trust & Safety Operations to accomplish our mission.

About the Role

  • Conduct exploratory data analyses and develop machine learning models to identify risks.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners, such as product, engineering, design, legal, and trust and safety to design effective machine learning solutions.

  • Analyze and prepare training data, including using crowdsourcing data labeling techniques.

  • Train and iterate on machine learning models using novel techniques.

  • Deploy machine learning models to production and write backend code when necessary to properly deploy the model.

  • Debug models when observability shows performance gaps, and iterate on models.

About You

  • You have experience working in an end-to-end machine learning team environment: analyzing data, building and iterating on machine learning models, writing production-level code and shipping to production, monitoring performance, and A/B testing.

  • You write clean and robust code in Python or other programming languages and have a keen eye for detail in code reviews.

  • You have experience debugging complex systems with a systematic approach.

  • You have a curious mindset and dive deeply into datasets to understand our product and customers.

  • You have solid communication skills and write clear documentation.

  • You have a growth mindset and aspire to continuously improve your soft and technical skills.

  • You are energized about building the first version of systems and are passionate about empowering creators with new machine learning solutions.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or the equivalent

  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
