Job Description

 

Forge ahead with WSB. We are seeking Senior Lead Engineer-Substations to add to our growing team.  You will lead the development and delivery of complex substation projects while strengthening technical excellence across our team. We are seeking a seasoned substation engineer with deep expertise in both Physical and P&C design, as well as the ability to define processes, elevate quality and mentor senior-level staff. In this role, you will shape team growth, support multi-disciplinary collaboration and ensure consistent, high-performing engineering execution. What you will do:

  • Provide leadership to the team; direct and coordinate work assignments and ensure the efficient cost-effective utilization of staff. 
  • Responsible for the profitable growth of the department; ensuring staffing levels, staff loading, and staff assignments meet project requirements while maintaining billable goals. 
  • Responsible for performance management, hiring and general management of personnel.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, trust, and continuous learning within the engineering team.
  • Provides guidance and direction to assigned direct reports, serving as a mentor for future leaders.
  • Resolve conflicts constructively and ensure a positive team dynamic.
  • Support career growth by identifying opportunities for professional development and upskilling.
  • Responsible of developing and implementing training programs.
  • Develops project execution and quality control processes for his team and department wide implementation.
  • Consistently and independently applies knowledge and complies with our quality processes.
  • Reviews lower-level engineering work or assignments. Responsible for coordinating multiple disciplines and serving as the responsible charge for assigned projects.
  • Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on projects. Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work. 
  • Assists in the development of budgets, schedules, and resource planning across multiple projects.
  • Identify project scope changes and support the PM in developing change management plans.
  • Provides support to business development and project management office in pursuit activities.

What you will bring:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program. 
  • 10+ years of experience in design of substation facilities with a strong understanding of layout optimization and technical knowledge of major equipment associated with substation facilities. 
  • P.E License required.
  • Previous experience of leading and mentoring junior and mid-level engineers/designers.
  • Good communication skills and interest in engaging with clients to grow relationships.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards.
  • Strong understanding of Physical and Electrical/Controls.
  • Advanced ability to interpret engineering deliverable content as assigned.
  • Working knowledge of procurement & contract administration.
  • Working knowledge of the proposal process.
  • The position will entail occasional travel to support field assignments, and meetings with clients and other organizations.
