Senior Java Engineer - 12 month FTC

About this role 
We're a leading food delivery service operating in over 23 countries, known by brands like Lieferando.de and Takeaway.com. Our tech-focused approach, centered in our Berlin hub, gives us a competitive edge.

The Marketplace Courier App (AKA Curiosity) team is a cross-functional team, distributed across two hubs, that builds and maintains systems to streamline food delivery for restaurants and couriers. We are looking for a developer for our Berlin hub to help solve complex business and technical challenges.

Please note that this position is located in Berlin & is 3 days a week in the office, the rest of the time is up to you! This is a fixed term contract for 12 months but if a permanent role opens in that time, this role may become permanent.

• Solve business and technical challenges by building and improving services to bring fresh insights to our products.
• Implement high-quality code following Clean Code and SOLID principles to drive excellence.
• Collaborate actively within a cross-functional team on refinements and planning to ensure shared success.
• Take initiative on technical challenges and plan work with the team to ensure fast delivery and value.
• Lead technical excellence by applying modern architectural patterns to streamline food delivery systems and improve efficiency.
• Own the results by managing the full lifecycle of services, from development through to logging and monitoring in production.
• Raise the bar by utilizing cloud-native technologies to create impactful, scalable systems and push for better outcomes.

• Expertise in Java technologies and frameworks for building scalable systems.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases for responsible data management and high-impact results.
• Proficiency with messaging brokers and Kafka to build reactive systems through Event-Driven Architecture.
• Deep understanding of Clean Code, SOLID principles, and DDD to build high-quality software foundations.
• Hands-on experience with logging and monitoring to ensure the health and performance of production services.
• Skilled in cloud-native technologies, AWS, and Kubernetes to solve complex scaling challenges.
• Knowledge of modern patterns (CQRS, Microprofile, Quarkus) and AI coding tools (Co-pilot, Kiro) to drive innovation and accelerate development.
