We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer / VMware Architect to join our high-impact Platform Engineering team. This strategic role is pivotal in architecting, maintaining, and evolving the company’s hybrid infrastructure—supporting both cloud and on-premise environments. You will lead the design and implementation of enterprise-grade solutions leveraging VMware technologies, Kubernetes, and automation tools, ensuring operational excellence in performance, scalability, and security.
The ideal candidate will be a technical leader with a passion for infrastructure modernization, deep expertise in virtualization and containerization, and a proactive approach to system resilience and compliance. You will collaborate cross-functionally with DevOps, Security, and Engineering teams to build secure, scalable platforms that support rapid development and deployment of business-critical applications.
This is a hybrid role in our Menlo Park, CA office
Responsibilities
- Architect, deploy, and maintain VMware-based virtualization platforms, including vSphere, NSX, and VSAN.
- Manage and optimize VMware security configurations (vCenter Hardening, NSX micro-segmentation, secure remote desktop services).
- Deploy and manage Kubernetes clusters on VMware infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Implement and maintain Juniper networking (firewalls, switches, SD-WAN).
- Administer Pure Storage environments for performance, reliability, and DR readiness.
- Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and Ansible.
- Integrate DevOps practices to automate deployments and optimize CI/CD pipelines.
- Monitor and troubleshoot infrastructure performance issues proactively.
- Collaborate with DevOps and software teams to support containerized workloads.
- Ensure compliance with CIS, NIST, HIPAA standards; manage secure handling of PHI.
- Document system configurations and maintain accurate network topology records.
- Perform routine system audits, patching, and upgrades.
- Develop and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
Preferred Qualifications
- Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years managing VMware environments (vSphere, NSX, VSAN).
- Deep expertise in VMware security practices (e.g., vCenter Hardening, NSX micro-segmentation).
- Hands-on experience managing Kubernetes on VMware platforms.
- Strong proficiency in Juniper networking (firewalls, switches, SD-WAN) and networking protocols (BGP, OSPF, VLANs).
- Experience administering Pure Storage systems.
- Expertise with Terraform, Ansible, and Jenkins for automation and CI/CD.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as vRealize Operations, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog.
- Solid understanding of CIS, NIST, HIPAA compliance and experience handling PHI.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; thrives in high-pressure environments.
- Excellent communication skills—written and verbal.
- Highly Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications in VMware (VCP-DCV, VCAP), Kubernetes (CKA, CKAD), Juniper (JNCIA, JNCIP).
- Familiarity with VMware Horizon View for remote desktop services.
- Experience with Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Planning.
- Exposure to SD-WAN architecture and hybrid cloud strategies.
- Understanding of multi-cloud integrations (AWS, Azure, GCP) with VMware.
- Working knowledge of compliance frameworks such as ISO 27000, CIS Benchmarks, NIST 800-53.
Expected full time annual base pay scale for this position is $131K-$172K. Actual base pay will consider skills, experience and location.
Based on the role, colleagues may be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan tied to company and individual performance, or an incentive plan. We also offer a long-term incentive plan to align company and colleague success over time.
