OVERVIEW

A thriving, mission-driven multimedia organization, NPR produces award-winning news, information, and music programming in partnership with hundreds of independent public radio stations across the nation. The NPR audience values information, creativity, curiosity, and social responsibility – and our employees do too. We are innovators and leaders in diverse fields, from journalism and digital media to IT and development. Every day, our employees and member stations touch the lives of millions worldwide.

Across our organization, we’re building a workplace where collaboration is essential, diverse voices are heard, and inclusion is the key to our success. We are committed to doing the right thing in our journalism and in every role at NPRThis means that integrity, adherence to our ethical standards, and compliance with legal obligations are fundamental responsibilities for every employee at NPR.

NPR’s Editorial Graphics team is looking for a civic-minded senior graphics reporter to join us. Our team works on data visualizations, information design, creative story presentations and custom tooling to help tell stories in the NPR newsroom. (You can see some of our past work on our team blog and GitHub account.) We work across a broad range of beats and subject areas — such as the new administration in Washington, D.C., immigration, international conflict, climate change and culture. We also aspire to create more moments of joy. We’re curious to know what you’re passionate about, too.

On this team, you will have to work quickly in a dynamic environment. You will encounter new problems every day and may wear many hats, as a designer, reporter, data wrangler, developer, cartographer, etc. We are always open to new tools and to teammates who bring experience with different technologies and disciplines.

We work closely with journalists and storytelling units around the NPR organization and across our network of member stations, including photographers and video journalists, beat reporters and show producers, copy editors, digital editors and engagement editors.

  • Demonstrated initiative and self-starting skills; ability to work independently
  • Sincere curiosity, attention to detail and enthusiasm for making things
  • A passion for Internet-native storytelling
