Escape Velocity Entertainment
Senior Game Development Engineer, Automation Systems | Fully Remote
What we are looking for:
The Senior Game Development Engineer, Automation Systems is responsible for improving and sustaining the overall health, reliability, and scalability of the game’s development process. This role bridges gameplay engineering, design, art, debug engineering, QA, and build/release — by engineering solutions and ensuring that development is fast, stable, and confidence-driven.
This engineer will architect, implement, and evolve systems that support automation, validation, and testing across Unreal workflows. They will produce and maintain automated tests and validation frameworks, ensure results are visible and actionable across teams, and help train others to adopt forward-thinking, test-driven development practices.
The role requires a self-directed senior engineer capable of taking high-level objectives, translating them into actionable solutions, and building trust through consistent delivery. Over time, this position will serve as a long-term steward of development health, guiding systems maturity, technical accountability, and cultural best practices for sustainable, high-quality production.
Requirements
What we will do together:
- Collaborate with gameplay engineers, designers, artists, debug engineering, QA, and build/release teams to identify and resolve workflow inefficiencies.
- Design, implement, and maintain automated testing and validation frameworks within Unreal to ensure reliability and consistent build quality.
- Produce and evolve forward-looking test and validation systems and help train other developers to build and maintain their own automation as part of daily practice.
- Partner with QA Engineering to align automation coverage and validation systems with testing goals.
- Work with Build Release, QA, and Debug Engineering to ensure crash reports and validation data are collected, triaged, distributed, and tracked through resolution.
- Maintain visibility of critical issues and ensure accountability across teams for addressing crash trends and build stability concerns.
- Architect scalable solutions that support continuous integration, build health, and long-term maintainability.
- Guide the continuous evolution of development health systems — from early architecture to refinement and expansion.
- Champion a test-driven development mindset and other sustainable engineering practices that improve confidence and quality.
- Promote clear accountability for stability and validation results across teams.
- Debug and optimize systems in both runtime and editor environments.
- Communicate technical changes and recommendations clearly to cross-discipline partners.
- Support feature and gameplay teams in integrating stable workflows, testing infrastructure, and validation practices.
What you will bring:
- 5+ years of professional experience in Games.
- Strong test-driven development mindset, with the ability to teach and advocate those principles across the team.
- Proven track record contributing to automation, build, or validation systems on shipped or live products.
- Familiarity with Unreal’s automation frameworks (functional tests, automation specs, or custom solutions).
- Solid background in 3D math and gameplay programming and game development concepts.
- Strong C++ programming foundations with experience building and maintaining large codebases; familiarity with other relevant languages or scripting (Python, UE Blueprint, or build scripting) as needed for automation and integration tasks.
- End-to-end production experience: participated in both development and post-launch or live-ops phases.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD workflows, version control, build validation, and reporting pipelines.
- Demonstrated ability to execute broad objectives with minimal oversight.
- Excellent communication and cross-discipline collaboration skills.
- Values maintainability, clarity, and continuous improvement as core to engineering craft.
