About the role

Labviva’s marketplace is a two-sided e-commerce platform which allows enterprise clients to connect their scientists and laboratory administrators to millions of scientific products offered by a variety of different vendors.

As a Senior Fullstack Engineer for the e-commerce PlatformTeam, you will help advance our core purchasing platform to provide a modern e-commerce experience specifically tailored for scientific users.  This includes allowing scientists to search millions of data rich records when ordering equipment, chemicals, and lab consumables while providing suppliers with rich analytics about marketplace behavior.

You are a fit for the role if you enjoy creating comprehensive end-to-end solutions within a collaborative environment. Experience with e-commerce platforms or enterprise web applications is a plus. You are thoughtful in your approach to design and engineer solutions that meet business demands while optimizing for system health, security, and long-term maintenance.

Location: Boston Headquarters at 239 Causeway Street, Suite 500, Boston, MA. This is a hybrid role 3 days a week in the office (Tues,Wed,Thurs).

How You Will Contribute  

  • Act as a technical lead for various initiatives including designing and implementing new features and advancing the technologies our platform uses
  • Mentor, support, collaborate with, and learn from other members of the team as well as other key stakeholders across the company
  • Contribute to an engineering culture of shipping great products. Advocate for new technologies, methods, best practices and solutions (technical and non-technical) that improve our product and work experience
  • Ship new code on a daily basis covering the following areas:
    • Frontend features, components, designs, and general architecture supporting everything a user needs to do on our site
    • Backend services supporting the entire marketplace including interfacing with data pipelines and supporting the frontend
    • External integrations with third parties including different product information and order placement APIs
    • Search infrastructure and optimizations for scientific use-cases

What You Bring To The Team

For this role, you’d be a great fit if

  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • You have 6+ years of experience
  • You have a history of tackling large and complex problems and turning them into executable solutions
  • You have experience as an owner/SME of technical & functional areas which involve working with key stakeholders to create stable and resilient products that customers use every day
  • You know how to forge new paths for enterprise-level green and brown-field projects to create new features utilizing modern technologies
  • You are effective at learning and experimenting with new technologies and frameworks
  • You have a strong background designing and developing modern frontends and supporting infrastructure
  • You have a history of contributing to reliable and scalable software projects 

Experience with one or more of the following is a plus

  • Elasticsearch ingestion pipelines and search tuning
  • Architecting and working in a Service Oriented Architecture environment
  • Working with and utilizing AI throughout the SDLC using agentic tools like Cursor and Claude Code
  • Deep knowledge of an area of our stack:
    • Next.js and React
    • Typescript, Node.js, and backend frameworks including Nest.js and Typeorm
    • PostgreSQL utilizing Aurora
    • Kafka
    • Kubernetes and Docker
  • E-commerce platform experience
  • Procurement for scientific applications
