About Our Company

Kanopi Studios is a Design, Development & Support Agency with a fully distributed team of people who are experts in Drupal & WordPress.

Our clients are mission-driven — and so are we. We design, build, and support websites that help their missions thrive.

We believe the people behind the work matter just as much as the work itself. That’s why we’re deeply committed to supporting our team’s growth, well-being, and success. When our people thrive, our clients do too — and together, we build a web that works better for everyone.

As Kanopi continues to grow, we’re excited to welcome a new Senior Full Stack WordPress Engineer to our team.

About the Role

Kanopi Studios seeks a Senior Full Stack WordPress Engineer to join our collaborative, fun, and fully distributed team. As a Senior Engineer at Kanopi Studios, you are instrumental in delivering outstanding digital experiences to our clients. This varied role can include anything from deeply technical custom integrations to strategic improvements on existing sites. Your day-to-day work includes hands-on development and collaboration on sites while staying accountable to schedules, estimates, project requirements, and high standards of quality.

We are looking for experienced candidates who:

  • Understand our clients' business goals and needs for the sites we support.
  • Identify issues, research solutions, and advise on best practices aligned with client goals.
  • Explain complex technical concepts in clear, accessible language for non-technical audiences.
  • Make smart technical design decisions and trade-offs considering our clients’ business requirements.
  • Expertly craft custom front- or back-end solutions in WordPress.
  • Build, adapt, and configure WordPress sites using modern development practices.
  • Work with existing WordPress codebases to extend and improve them.
  • Develop native Gutenberg blocks using React and build custom themes and plugins.
  • Create HTML templates and patterns optimized for full-site editing.
  • Perform end-to-end responsibilities for engineering work on complex projects.
  • Contribute to our common code libraries.
  • Write tests and contribute to test cases.
  • Plan and execute new features on existing sites.
  • Build against an established suite of user stories for large-scale projects.
  • Proactively identify issues and technical limitations and communicate clearly across agency functional areas.
  • Clearly document code and processes to communicate your technical decisions.
  • Mentor new and developing engineers.
About the compensation and work requirements

This is a full-time position. The salary range for this position is $81,000.00 - $117,400.00 - the range is broad, but it is commensurate with experience, aligned with current members of our team with similar experience, and may shift a bit depending on your geographic location. This is a 100% remote role, but you must live and be able to work in the US or Canada.

Now, let's talk about you!
Requirements

We are looking for candidates who…

  • Have 5+ years of related WordPress experience.
  • Have worked in an agency environment, preferably in multiple time zones.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of industry trends.
  • Show strong problem-solving abilities, intelligence, and initiative.
  • Have strong debugging skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of modern development workflows, including command line, gitflow, containers, and dev/stage/prod environments.
  • Deeply understand modern web standards and technologies.
  • Exhibit thoughtful, inclusive, and articulate communication skills in writing and in person.
  • Have a BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.
  • Have some Next.js or Vue experience (this would be an excellent plus).

At Kanopi, we know that a diverse team makes us stronger, more creative, and more effective. We enthusiastically welcome applicants of all backgrounds, and we strongly encourage people of color, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, and those from other underrepresented communities to apply.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
