Lead full-stack development across Superset frontend and backend services. Design and ship end-to-end features, improve performance and scalability, own major technical initiatives, mentor engineers, set engineering standards, and collaborate with product, design, and the open-source community.
Location: Remote (US / Canada preferred)
Company: Preset
Team: Product Engineering
Preset is the modern analytics platform built on Apache Superset, the world’s leading open-source BI tool. We help companies deliver fast, beautiful, governed analytics at scale — without locking them into proprietary data modeling layers or closed ecosystems.
We work at the intersection of open source, cloud infrastructure, and product-led analytics, building tools that serve everyone from data analysts to platform engineers.
Preset is looking for a senior full stack engineer to help lead the next generation of our product and platform. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives in complex systems, cares deeply about user experience, and wants to shape the future of open analytics.
You will work across the stack — from frontend experiences in Superset to backend services, APIs, and cloud infrastructure — and play a key role in technical direction, mentorship, and execution of major product initiatives.
This is not a narrow feature-only role: you will be trusted to own ambiguous problems, drive architecture decisions, and help scale both the product and the engineering organization.
- Design and ship end-to-end product features spanning frontend, backend, and infrastructure
- Work deeply in the Superset ecosystem (React + Python + SQL + APIs)
- Improve performance, scalability, and reliability of user-facing workflows
- Lead large projects such as semantic layer integrations, caching/performance improvements, embedded analytics experiences, or permissions modernization
- Drive technical planning, tradeoff discussions, and execution across teams
- Set best practices for code quality, testing, observability, and maintainability
- Mentor senior and junior engineers and strengthen team execution
- Partner with product, design, and customer-facing teams to deliver impactful outcomes
- Work closely with open-source contributors and the Apache Superset community
- Build workflows that support AI-assisted analytics, LLM integrations, and next-generation BI experiences
- Help define what “modern analytics” looks like in an open ecosystem
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience (or equivalent)
- Strong full stack background: modern frontend + backend + systems thinking
- Experience leading major initiatives in complex production environments
- Deep knowledge of:
- React + TypeScript (frontend architecture, performance, UX)
- Python backend development (APIs, services, async systems)
- SQL and data-intensive applications
- Comfort working in cloud-native environments (AWS, Kubernetes, Docker)
- You care about the user experience as much as the backend correctness
- You think in systems: reliability, scalability, operability, long-term evolution
- You thrive in ambiguity and enjoy turning messy problems into clear solutions
- Proven ability to mentor engineers and raise the bar across a team
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to drive alignment without heavy process
- Experience with BI tools: Superset, Looker, Tableau, PowerBI, Mode, etc.
- Familiarity with semantic layers: dbt, Cube, MetricFlow, etc.
- Open source experience (especially Apache ecosystem)
- Experience building embedded analytics or multi-tenant SaaS platforms
- Interest in AI/LLM-enabled developer and analytics workflows
- Work on one of the most widely adopted open-source analytics platforms in the world
- Solve challenging problems at the intersection of data, product, and infrastructure
- Help define the future of open, composable BI (not closed dashboards)
- High autonomy, high trust engineering culture
- Opportunity to lead at Staff/Principal scope with real ownership
The base pay range for this role is $100,000 – $150,000 per year.
