We are a group of out of the box thinkers and doers, driven by an immense passion to challenge the old ways by working together to bring innovative changes that impact the lives of others. HONK is seeking an experienced and versatile fully remote Senior Software Engineer. In this role, you will work closely with our CTO and team of full-stack engineers to design, architect, and build new products and features. From enhancing our back-end RoR systems to scaling our ML-based dispatch platforms, you will drive the technical direction and play a critical role in our continued growth. This is a perfect opportunity for an engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, data-driven environment, iterates quickly, and is eager to have a hands-on role in shaping product development.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the CTO and engineering team to design and architect new features and products.
- Develop and maintain our back-end dispatch applications using Ruby on Rails.
- Improve and scale our real-time, location-based systems and machine learning dispatch systems.
- Work across the stack, including building and integrating APIs, improving scalability, and ensuring performance.
- Write clean, maintainable code, and review and enforce best practices in system design and coding standards.
Preferred Experience
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong background in full-stack development.
- Expertise in building highly dynamic web applications in an agile environment.
- Proven experience with Ruby on Rails apps, RESTful APIs, and real-time, location-based systems.
- Solid understanding of both SQL (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (Redis) databases.
- Hands-on experience with telephony apps (e.g., Twilio) is a plus.
- Experience with scalability and performance management of large-scale systems.
- Proficiency with modern tools such as Git, Bitbucket, Jira, and continuous integration (CI) pipelines.
- Strong communication skills and ability to lead and mentor other engineers.
At HONK, we're a community of diverse and passionate individuals who believe in the power of remote work and the strength of inclusivity. As a remote-first company, we embrace the boundless possibilities of collaboration and flexibility, allowing our team members to thrive from anywhere in the US.
HONK is proud to be an equal-opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
