What you'll do:

• Design and implement scalable applications using modern web application frameworks (e.g., Rails, React, NestJS, NextJS).
• Drive technology initiatives that empower and uplift the platform that 8am’s products are built on. (e.g., Common Identity, Single Sign-On)
• Define, implement, and evolve a backend architecture that enables scalable, sustainable business growth
• Proactively identify and implement solutions to enhance application performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders to gather requirements, propose solutions, and align with business goals.
• Collaborate with product teams to assess trade-offs, identify risks, and align improvements with business objectives.
• Mentor and coach software engineers, fostering professional growth within the team.
• Provide guidance and expertise in software architecture, design patterns, and best practices to the broader engineering organization.
• Lead team ceremonies, including sprint planning, grooming, and retrospectives, ensuring effective communication and coordination.
• Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to bring innovation to the team.

About you:

• BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 10+ years of experience designing, implementing, and debugging large-scale, distributed cloud-based solutions.
• Experience with Lean product development and Agile frameworks (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).
• Work effectively with LLM’s, understand agent concepts and related technologies (e.g. MCP servers)
• Strong understanding of SOLID design principles and software design patterns.
• Strong understanding of SQL, and familiarity with relational databases such as Postgres or MySQL
• Excellent teamwork, documentation, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to improve workflows, enhance decision-making, or drive innovation.

Nice to have:

• Experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience designing and building standards-based authentication and authorization systems (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML).
• Experience designing and building scalable APIs.
• Experience with asynchronous messaging platforms like Kafka and AWS SQS.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud Platform).
• Experience with Ruby on Rails (or equivalent), NodeJS and NextJS.
• Experience with React, Bootstrap, Tailwind, and modern frontend technologies.
• Experience deploying applications with Kubernetes.

Additional Information
The annual salary range for this position is $130,000 to $170,000. The salary range for performing this role outside of the US / Austin / California may differ.  8am is committed to offering competitive, fair and commensurate compensation and has provided an estimated pay range for this role. Actual compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and education.
