DRW is a diversified trading firm with over 3 decades of experience bringing sophisticated technology and exceptional people together to operate in markets around the world. We value autonomy and the ability to quickly pivot to capture opportunities, so we operate using our own capital and trading at our own risk.

Headquartered in Chicago with offices throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia, we trade a variety of asset classes including Fixed Income, ETFs, Equities, FX, Commodities and Energy across all major global markets. We have also leveraged our expertise and technology to expand into three non-traditional strategies: real estate, venture capital and cryptoassets.

We operate with respect, curiosity and open minds. The people who thrive here share our belief that it’s not just what we do that matters–it's how we do it. DRW is a place of high expectations, integrity, innovation and a willingness to challenge consensus.

We're seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer to join our algorithmic trading team to improve existing trading system UIs and develop new UI’s. The position is focused on UI engineering but offers opportunities to work on API design and back-end code.

Candidates should have strong initiative and have proven experience independently driving projects to completion.  We work from high-level requirements and programmers are expected to gain an intimate understanding of the business and work directly with traders and researchers on a daily basis.

This role will be for our Chicago office.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build the next evolution of our automated trading UI’s.  Your job is to create a UI environment that surfaces critical real time information across markets and trading applications, intuitively alerts traders to what is important, allows them to quickly assess the state of our automated trading systems, and control the applications flawlessly.
  • Work side by side with traders and developers to deliver a cohesive user experience across our trading applications, and ensure that our UIs are consistent, efficient, and prevent user errors.
  • Develop full products from inception to production, including gathering requirements, understanding the user experience, developing prototypes, implementation, and production support.
  • Profile and tune the performance of client-side code.
  • Provide on-call production support as needed.

Some of the key skills are

  • 5+ years of experience with web development (JavaScript, HTML5, CSS required, with at least some of WebSockets, TypeScript, ReactJS, Vue, Knockout, WASM, etc.)
  • 3+ years of experience with UX design
  • Experience with evaluating multiple feature requests, identifying what the user needs, and providing a solution that meets their need and is consistent across the platform.
  • Mature practices in unit testing and automated, UI driven acceptance testing
  • Experience with high availability systems
  • Experience with optimizing applications for Chrome
  • Experience developing server-side systems (helpful but not required)
  • Experience developing on Linux and a familiarity with the command line
  • Experience with DevOps or system administration (helpful but not required)
  • Experience with trading systems (helpful but not required)

The annual base salary range for this position is $175,000 to $225,000, depending on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and relevant skill set. The position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.  In addition, DRW offers a comprehensive suite of employee benefits including group medical, pharmacy, dental and vision insurance, 401k (with discretionary employer match), short and long-term disability, life and AD&D insurance, health savings accounts, and flexible spending accounts.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
