Senior Front-End Engineer

About the Role

You will play a key role in building and evolving complex, data-driven user interfaces that support mission-critical defense systems. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical depth, excellent communication skills, and comfort working directly with stakeholders and client engineering teams.

While full-stack experience is a plus, this role requires deep specialization in front-end development.

Our client is a U.S.-based software company specializing in defense analytics. Its flagship platform leverages artificial intelligence and integrated data to modernize and accelerate the defense acquisition process. The platform supports teams across supply chain, science & technology, production, sustainment, logistics, and modernization—enabling faster, data-driven decision-making. The company serves as a strategic technology partner to the U.S. government in support of national security initiatives.

Location:

Requires US citizenship and hybrid work from the Newton office 3 days per week, with occasional travel to Pittsburgh.

Who are we looking for?

Skills & Experience

• 8–10 years of professional software engineering experience (seniority is more important than exact years)
• Expert-level React development experience
• Fluency in native JavaScript
• Strong experience with TypeScript
• Experience with Next.js a plus
• Strong understanding of:
   
  • Client-side vs. server-side components
  • Component-driven architecture
  • Modern React concepts (hooks, composition, state management patterns)
• Prior experience using AI tools for coding (Claude Code or Copilot strongly preferred)
   

Soft Skills & Client Engagement

• Strong communication skills, including use of structured methods such as STAR
• Comfortable presenting ideas and solutions directly to clients
• Demonstrates grit and persistence when solving complex problems
• Thrives working in client environments alongside external engineering teams
• Able to clearly explain technical tradeoffs and implementation choices

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable, maintainable front-end applications using React and JavaScript/TypeScript
• Architect component-based UI systems and page structures using modern React patterns
• Work with Next.js and understand tradeoffs between client-side vs. server-side rendering
• Collaborate closely with client engineers onsite to deliver high-quality production code
• Participate in technical discussions, design reviews, and hands-on coding sessions
• Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development and improve code quality
• Communicate technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Contribute to code reviews and uphold best practices in front-end engineering
