The successful candidates will work within the Optimizely (formerly Episerver) Digital Experience Platform, partnering with CPS technical teams to build responsive, accessible, secure, and scalable web solutions. Position Overview
Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is seeking a highly experienced Senior Front End Developer (Marketing) to support the modernization and continuous enhancement of the District's public-facing digital experience. The successful candidate will work within the Optimizely (formerly Episerver) Digital Experience Platform, partnering with CPS technical teams to build responsive, accessible, secure, and scalable web solutions. The role will develop reusable components, optimize existing applications, implement best practices, and support the delivery of enterprise digital initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain custom templates, components, and themeable blocks within the Optimizely Digital Experience Platform.
• Develop responsive user interfaces using React, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, SASS, Webpack, and related front-end technologies.
• Analyze, troubleshoot, refactor, and optimize existing applications for performance, accessibility, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with UX designers, business analysts, content authors, and developers to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Participate in Agile planning, sprint ceremonies, code reviews, and release management using Azure DevOps.
• Implement CI/CD best practices and support automated testing.
• Ensure compliance with CPS coding standards, accessibility (WCAG), security, and enterprise architecture guidelines.
• Produce technical documentation and provide knowledge transfer to CPS staff.
• Provide technical leadership and front-end development best practices.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum five (5) years of professional front-end development experience.
• Experience developing solutions using Optimizely/Episerver Digital Experience Platform.
• Strong expertise in React, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, SASS, Microsoft Azure, and Azure DevOps.
• Working knowledge of C#, ASP.NET MVC (Razor), SQL Server, Continuous Integration, and automated testing.
• Excellent analytical, debugging, communication, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within Agile teams.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting public sector or K-12 organizations.
• Experience with SEO optimization, web accessibility (WCAG 2.2), and performance tuning.
• Experience integrating analytics and digital marketing technologies.
• Experience mentoring developers and contributing to application architecture.
