JOB SUMMARY
The Defense Industrial Base Institute seeks a dynamic Senior Financial Analyst to support a new U.S. Department of Defense-funded project as well as its overall institute mission in the metro-Boston area, nationally, and internationally. This role requires a person with proven expertise in financial and grant management, great collaboration and interpersonal skills, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
The position reports to the Director of Finance and Administration at the Defense Industrial Base Institute (DIBI) and focuses on short- and long-term financial planning and/or financial analysis of DIBI’s operations for the purpose of measuring and forecasting the Institute’s financial performance. The Senior Financial Analyst supports the core financial planning and reporting processes that are the basis for the Institute’s decision making, strategy, and planning. The role will support all aspects of DIBI’s financial planning to develop contribution, break-even, and ROI analyses. As such, the Analyst is responsible for the management of a portfolio of DIBI expense budgets, including operational, grant, and restricted accounts and will work closely with NU RES and the Provost’s Office department to forecast expense budgets, identify and resolve budget related issues, maintain expense controls, review monthly expenditures and projections with the Executive Director and Director for Finance and Administration, and ensure appropriateness and accuracy of expenditures, all in conformance with Institute/University policy and procedures. The position will work with the NU RES point of contact on submissions of transfers, allocations, etc. that may be needed under the research award as well as support of the rapid study team awards that the Institute will manage as part of its core activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics, with an MBA or MPA preferred.
- Minimum of seven years of financial, accounting and/or grant management experience, preferably in higher education or non-profit environment.
- Advanced knowledge of financial concepts, modeling, and analyses.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously to drive results

- Ability to handle confidential information and manage through sensitive situations in a calm, thoughtful and professional manner.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Workday and Banner Finance preferred.
- Strong analytical skills and extreme attention to detail; accuracy of finished work is critical.
- Ability to communicate effectively with personnel at all levels of the University
- Ability to take initiative and follow through on tasks independently.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
- (25%) Prepare budgets and financial reports by reviewing and modeling revenue sources and expenditures to ensure accuracy, compliance with procedures, and adherence to regulations. Develop and maintain KPIs to track the Institute’s financial and operational performance, working with the Director of Finance and Administration and Executive Director to confirm that spending aligns with plans, transactions are accurate and properly approved, and budgets remain with their allocated limits.
- (25%) Deliver highly accurate financial forecasts to compare anticipated and actual results and identify areas of improvement. Lead the preparation of monthly projections for expenses, revenue, and restricted accounts. Develop and maintain financial models to support the business cases for new and existing business initiatives. Support DIBI’s Director of Finance and Executive Director to manage the Institute’s budget, including both discretionary and salary components. This involves creating clear and comprehensive plans and directions tailored for individuals without a financial background, as well as addressing salary budgets, and open salary lines.
- (25%) Oversee the Institute's third-party billing accounts to ensure accounts are accurate and payments are processed correctly. This includes monitoring invoices and tracking received payments.
- (10%) Assist as necessary in the purchasing and requisition process
- (15%) Assist as necessary with various ad hoc projects within the Institute. Such projects can include one-time analyses, specialized initiatives, financial support for research initiatives, etc.

$86,490.00 - $122,163.75With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role.
