Building something ambitious requires focus, resilience, and a willingness to take on challenging work. At Miris, we believe that this work can be deeply meaningful when it is supported by a strong team, a clear sense of purpose, and a shared commitment to achieving important outcomes. We are looking for people who are energized by complex problems and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

The Opportunity:

Miris is looking for an experienced technical leader for our small, senior, and international team building the realtime renderer at the heart of our product.

We help businesses put their real-world spaces and products into photorealistic 3D using our web and native SDKs. We condition customers' scene captures into radiance fields - think Gaussian splats and their descendants - and stream them to web browsers, mobile devices, AR/VR headsets, and game engines. This is a player-coach role: you'll manage people and delivery, and you'll also be a key rendering technologist, and the team will look to you for real technical calls, not just processes.

As a remote-first company with a globally distributed team, we value thoughtful collaboration, accountability, and trust. We also believe that every candidate should have an ownership mindset and the opportunity to share in the success they help create, which is why stock options are a significant portion of this role's compensation package.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and mentor a globally distributed team of senior rendering engineers, spanning realtime rendering, GPU and shader work, streaming graphics, and integration with our radiance field research.
  • Drive daily delivery efforts: balance competing priorities, resolve bottlenecks, and uphold engineering velocity and output quality.
  • Own and evolve the renderer's technical strategy: one core engine across many graphics APIs and platforms, and the fidelity/performance trade-offs that make photorealistic radiance fields viable on each.
  • Shape engineering practices and culture - design review, code health, and just enough project management for a small expert team to move fast without drift.
  • Partner with Scene Reconstruction and R&D teams so research advances land as visible image-quality and performance gains in the product.
  • Collaborate with Product and Integrations teams to turn rendering capabilities into features customers value and want to pay for.
  • Ensure a first-class developer experience through robust APIs, SDKs, samples, and documentation.
  • Steward a modern codebase spanning C++, shading languages, TypeScript/WebAssembly, Swift and C#/Unity, across web, mobile, desktop, and headset targets.

What You'll Bring:

  • A track record of leading realtime graphics engineers. You've shipped production renderers, engine subsystems, or GPU-heavy products, as a lead or manager.
  • Hands-on experience with radiance fields, Gaussian splatting, or neural rendering - enough to hold your own in a design discussion about them.
  • Technical depth: comfortable in the weeds, with a team whose respect comes from your judgment as much as your title.
  • Solid C++, shading languages, and rendering pipeline knowledge, with the architectural sensibility to keep one renderer coherent across many platforms and APIs.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and grow a multidisciplinary team with experience coaching engineers at different levels, giving direct feedback, and building the structure each person needs to be successful.
  • Excellent written and asynchronous communication, eager to run a team across nine time zones and translate rendering trade-offs into clear product decisions.
  • Comfortable with autonomy: you'd rather inherit a mission and run with it than be handed a ticket queue.

Location:

Remote, US East Coast strongly preferred

Why East Coast?

Our rendering engineers span Europe and North America, with a chunk of our engineering leadership in New Zealand. Eastern time is the hinge of that map: mornings overlap Europe, afternoons the West Coast, evenings hand off to NZ. If you want to own a working day rather than attend one, this is the seat.

Target Base Salary Range

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
