As the Senior Engineering Manager focused on Developer Experience and Platforms within the Tech Infra organization, you will be responsible for the strategy and execution for delivering software that empowers engineers to deliver features more effectively and at higher quality across the Compass engineering ecosystem.Your team will build and maintain tools, frameworks, and processes that streamline the feature development lifecycle and also reduce the need for manual intervention for large scale changes. Individuals who thrive on collaboration are encouraged to apply as they will be expected to partner closely with customers to ensure they understand the most impactful areas of opportunity to solve for.

Responsibilities

  • Nurture and Develop Talent: Build a high-performing team through mentorship, coaching, and empowerment.
  • Foster Growth & Performance: Provide individualized guidance to help each team member advance their technical and leadership skills.
  • Define Organizational Roadmap: Set long-term goals for developer productivity initiatives in collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Stay Ahead of Emerging Trends: Research and apply cutting-edge frameworks, tools, and practices to increase code quality and delivery speed.
  • Scale with Sound Architecture: Oversee technical decisions to ensure robust, scalable tools supporting rapid feature delivery.
  • Streamline & Innovate: Automate processes to reduce manual effort and foster a culture of responsible engineering.
  • Champion Cross-Functional Alignment: Partner with product and engineering teams to drive consensus, clearly articulating trade-offs.
  • Communicate Impact & Results: Use data-driven metrics to show how initiatives enhance developer experience and deliver business value.

Requirements:

  • Strong Technical Background: 10+ years of software engineering experience, with a proven track record of building tools, platforms, or processes that significantly improve developer velocity and code quality.
  • Management Experience: A technical leader with 6+ years of experience directly leading geographically distributed teams and staff-level engineers. 
  • People-Focused Leadership: Demonstrated success developing high-performing teams, ideally within a centralized infrastructure engineering organization
  • Collaboration & Communication: Excellent communication skills with a proactive approach to aligning priorities and balancing trade-offs.
  • Customer Empathy & Product Mindset: Demonstrated ability to deeply understand user needs and treat the platform as a product, prioritizing excellent user experience and satisfaction.
  • Data-Driven Decision-Making: Skilled in using metrics to guide improvements, with familiarity in modern DevOps tooling and cloud platforms.
  • Track Record of Large-Scale Migrations: Experience successfully leading major infrastructure or platform transitions.
  • Visionary Leader: Capable of setting a compelling technical direction that inspires teams and aligns with business objectives
