About the Role

We’re looking for a talented Engineering Manager focused on building out our Data Integration Platform. This team is responsible for data consumption and extraction between Onebrief systems and our partners in the military. By partnering with Product and Design, you will own the platform used by our external partners, including but not limited to the creation and hardening of robust data pipelines and clearly defined external APIs to ensure that our data integrations are reliable, secure, and mission-ready

About You

You enjoy being a people manager, and successfully lead teams through complex and evolving challenges. You are skilled at transforming vast and intricate data flows into clear, actionable insights. You effectively work with stakeholders (both internal and external customers) into strategic outcomes. Your approach is systematic, data-driven, and strategic, with a proven ability to deliver high-value outcomes quickly and efficiently.

What you’ll do
  • Platform Development: Design and build secure, scalable, and reliable data pipelines, warehouses, and external API capabilities for supporting external developers.

  • Lead Technology Improvements: Work with stakeholders to identify opportunities for improving external developer experience and decreasing time-to-market for future external integrations.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, DevOps, and SREs, Leveraging your communication skills to ensure effective teamwork.

  • Team Building: Grow, develop and lead a team of engineers focusing on back-end operations. Mentor and support the growth of both your team and your peers

Qualifications

Leadership & Management Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience managing engineers, including responsibility for hiring, career growth, performance reviews, and team development

  • I5+ years in backend or data engineering, ideally with experience in API design, data ingestion, or integration platforms.

  • Proven ability to mentor and coach engineers in fast-moving or early-stage environments

  • Experience leading cross-functional projects in collaboration with product managers and designers

Technical Expertise:

  • 5+ years of backend or data engineering experience

  • Strong understanding of designing and maintaining APIs for external use, including managing authentication, versioning, and developer onboarding

  • Experience working with data pipelines, file imports and exports, and handling evolving data models

  • Familiarity with system design patterns, scalable infrastructure, and distributed architectures

Platform & Delivery Focus:

  • Demonstrated success delivering systems that are secure, scalable, and reliable over time

  • Experience improving developer experience, documentation, and support for integration use cases

  • Comfortable owning system quality and performance over the long term, including observability, testing, and support processes

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Clear communicator with both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Strong writing and coordination skills in distributed or remote-first work environments

  • Brings a collaborative, low-ego leadership style focused on building trust and clarity

Bonus Skills (Nice to Have):

  • Background in integration platforms or developer-facing tools

  • Experience in government, regulated industries, or high-trust technical environments

  • Familiarity with structured planning processes and initiative-based development cycles

Compensation Range: $225K - $275K
