The Senior Engineer, NPD Procurement (Biotechnology) serves as a critical interface between R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, and external suppliers to enable successful new product introductions in a GMP-regulated biotech environment.

What will you be doing?

  • Primary Interface for New Product Introductions: Actively engage with cross-functional teams, to drive new product introductions and expand the company's product portfolio, Stakeholder management is key
  • Strategic Supplier Management: Function as the main point of contact for external suppliers, handling quotations, negotiations, and status reports. Play a crucial role in early supplier involvement and engagement, ensuring suitable candidate suppliers are identified and integrated from the initial phase gates.
  • Drive Agile New Product Introduction: Accelerate revenue growth through rapid New Product Introduction (NPI) execution by providing key procurement input, managing procurement-related launch activities in SAP, and tracking delivery status. Design an agile and reliable supplier network by identifying and communicating business risks, ensuring risk assessment results are reflected in the New Product Plan, and coordinating alternate sourcing pipelines based on risk potential.
  • Support Global Procurement Objectives: Adhere to Smith & Nephew's Code of Conduct and relevant industry regulations. Foster shared value with suppliers by cultivating strong relationships, arranging technical meetings, and staying informed about supplier technology and future trends. Contribute to protecting intellectual property and company information while encouraging supplier diversity.
  • Cost Management and Reporting: Manage and monitor costs throughout the development cycle, providing regular reports to both the team and management. Coordinate the initial project cost estimates, negotiate pricing with suppliers, and identify and mitigate risks to cost budgets. Business acumen and understanding of operations costing. 
  • Agility and Risk Management: work in a highly matrixed organization, demonstrating agility and adaptability in managing multiple, complex projects with a keen awareness of risk identification, assessment, and mitigation strategies to deliver the best outcomes.

What will you need to be successful?

  • Education: BS in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or elated field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience within a biotech, biopharma or regulated life sciences environment.
  • Minimum of 1+  year experience in a procurement role within a manufacturing regulated environment.
  • Highly flexible and adaptable
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Experience with supplier contract reviews, negotiating and execution.
  • Leadership: Individual Contributor on multiple projects. Ability to balance team leadership responsibilities while still effectively operating as an individual contributor. Ability to influence at all levels of an organization.
  • Travel Requirements: 10% domestic

Compensation

Smith+Nephew is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The anticipated base salary range for this position is USD92,000.00 - USD 137,750.00. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role at Smith + Nephew.  Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
