Job Responsibilities:

Position Overview:

Magna’s New Mobility division is seeking a Senior Engineer with a robotics system integration background to lead the design, deployment, and support of advanced robotic systems. This is a Hardware-centric role, where the ideal candidate will combine expertise in robotics systems, and mechanical design to ensure AMR solutions are reliable, secure, and optimized for autonomous mobility.

What you will be doing in this role:
  •  Design and develop mechanical assemblies for AMR infrastructure and safety-critical interfaces, including:
    • Docking stations (mechanical interfaces, alignment features, contact/compliance design)
    • Conveyors (mechanical integration, load paths, durability, alignment, serviceability)
    • Top hats and cart mechanical interfaces
    • Localizers (mounting, mechanical tolerancing, environmental robustness as applicable)
  • Capture and refine system requirements and derive hardware requirements (performance, constraints, interfaces, and verification criteria).
  • Create and iterate CAD models, drawings, and BOMs with strong GD&T and tolerance strategy.
  • Perform engineering analysis (e.g., structural/deflection, fatigue/durability, stiffness vs. compliance tradeoffs).
  • Support prototyping and validation by partnering on test planning, tolerance verification, and failure analysis.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineering and cross-functional teams (Electrical, Controls, Software, Manufacturing, Quality).
  • Maintain requirements traceability and design documentation that supports verification/validation.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable AMR safety standards and internal compliance requirements.

What you should bring to this role:

  • 7+ years of professional experience in mechanical design.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong experience with CAD and GD&T.
  • Experience designing compliant/safety-critical mechanical systems for robotics/AMR environments.
  • Hands-on ability to translate system requirements into hardware requirements (preferred: system engineering background).
  • Experience with FEA/structural analysis and core mechanics (stress/deflection/fatigue).
  • Familiarity with AMR-related safety standards and safety-by-design practices.
  • Experience integrating robotic systems in a factory automation environment.

Desired Attributes:

  • Experience with AMR safety standards (region/product dependent).
  • Prior role or substantial experience as a System Engineer (requirements decomposition, allocation, interface definitions, traceability).
  • Experience designing docking/compliance interfaces that handle alignment tolerances, contact dynamics, and durability.
  • Proficiency in solid works (Cad tool) is a plus
  • Experience interfacing robotic systems with factory PLC’s / MES Systems
  • undefined

Hiring Base Salary Range: $85,670 - $159,110 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data). In addition to base salary, some positions are eligible for an annual performance based bonus.
