About the Role

Are you a sharp, authoritative storyteller with a passion for the evolving world of food retail?

Progressive Grocer, the voice of the retail food industry, is seeking a Senior Editor to help drive our strategic vision. In this role, you won’t just report the news; you will provide indispensable business intelligence that helps decision-makers in grocery and consumer goods manage change and drive growth

The Senior Editor is a multi-platform content leader who works closely with the Editor-in-Chief, VP of Content, and Brand Director. You will be responsible for producing high-impact content across print, digital, and live events, ensuring our output remains the gold standard for the industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Content Creation: Produce sharp, timely news, insightful long-form features, and trend reports that maintain the authoritative tone of the Progressive Grocer brand.
  • Digital Leadership: Manage the creation and deployment of digital products, including e-newsletters, breaking news e-blasts, special reports, and video content.
  • Multimedia Presence: Lead and participate in webinars, videos, podcasts, and other multimedia formats.
  • Industry Ambassadorship: Represent the brand at internal and external industry events to gather intel, build relationships, and drive brand growth.
  • Commercial Collaboration: Act as an editorial liaison for the sales team, participating in calls with prospective and established clients to align content and market needs.
  • Relationship Building: Develop strong ties with retailers, associations, and industry influencers to stay ahead of the news cycle.

Qualifications

  • Experience & Education: Degree in Journalism, English or related; intimate familiarity with AP Style.
  • Passion for food retail and an insatiable hunger to learn about the industry
  • Versatile Writing: 5+ years of editorial experience with the proven ability to pivot between breaking news, short news articles, trend pieces, features, Q&As, deep-dive features under tight deadlines.
  • Digital Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Social Media, Drupal CMS, HTML, Photoshop, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Platform Presence: Comfortable and experienced on stage and in front of the camera.
  • Agility: A high sense of urgency and the flexibility to cover breaking news outside of standard business hours when necessary. Ability to be enthusiastic and personable, including experience working on events and projects on deadline
  • Travel: Ability to travel 4–6 times per year for industry events and company meetings
  • Schedule: Ability to occasionally work outside business hours for breaking news
