🌟 Your Impact at Lila

Lila Sciences is seeking a dedicated (Senior) Director of Software Product to join our team. This role will be Product lead for our Agentic Biologist software - the toolchain at the heart of reinventing the wheel of science. You will learn from customers, set roadmaps, and work cross-functionally to own the delivery of Lila’s most important product. This role is the first Software Product Manager, joining a team of Materials and Platform Product Manager, reporting to the Chief Product Officer.

🛠️ What You'll Be Building

  • Set the roadmap for the ongoing development of AI-enabled scientific software
  • Collaborate across the software and machine learning teams to define the product requirements and ensure coordination
  • Regularly talk with and learn from customers, informing software design decisions and feature prioritization
  • Constantly seek to identify areas for improvement and serve as a conduit for feedback from early customers to continuously improve KPIs
  • Own on-time completion, supporting project management delegation where reasonable and stepping in where gaps arise
  • Take on overall communication responsibilities for the status of software development, including to executive leadership
  • Serve as a mentor within the company, using your experience to elevate those around you

🧰 What You’ll Need to Succeed 

  • >5 years experience as a product manager leading complex software projects, preferably with biologists as your customer
  • >5 years experience in python development and familiarity with common tooling (machine learning, databases, git, docker, etc.
  • Proven experience with managing extremely complex, multidisciplinary projects using project management best practices
  • An academic background in biology or related field

✨ Bonus Points For

  • Experience with automated/self-driving labs and experience working with (not necessarily having run) machine learning
  • Deep understanding of the scientific method, preferably applied to life science
  • Highly collaborative and empathetic
  • High degree of comfort with ambiguity and able to adapt to changing teams and needs
  • Able to create small, achievable units of work from large, complex, and ambiguous goals
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying technical information to any audience
  • Relentlessly output-focused—driven by impact against our mission and program goals, not by doing tasks, owning decisions, or being in meetings
  • Able to influence without authority
