With a career at The Home Depot, you can be yourself and also be part of something bigger.

Position Purpose

The Senior Director of Technology will lead the strategic evolution and execution of The Home Depot’s SAP ecosystem, with a primary focus on our large-scale S/4HANA Finance transformation. This role is responsible for driving technical excellence, streamlining software delivery through advanced automation, and ensuring our core systems are scalable, resilient, and aligned with a "Clean Core" philosophy. You will lead a high-performing team of engineers, configurators and architects, managing complex system interfaces across a massive retail landscape while fostering a culture of innovation by leveraging emerging technologies and streamlined delivery. This portfolio includes both standard SAP capabilities and targeted custom development, requiring a leader who can balance Clean Core principles with pragmatic, business-driven customization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transformation Leadership (40%): Direct the end-to-end delivery of large-scale S/4HANA Finance implementations. Ensure the architecture supports high-volume retail operations and integrates seamlessly with numerous non-SAP systems.
  • Strategic Delivery & Automation (30%): Champion agile practices and automated testing to shift the team toward compressed delivery models. Implement practical transport governance and CI/CD pipelines for SAP that reduce cycle time without sacrificing rigor.
  • People & Vendor Management (20%): Lead and coach a diverse team of internal engineers, configurators and offshore augmentation partners. Manage System Integrator (SI) relationships from the client side, ensuring accountability and high-quality outcomes.
  • Innovation & Clean Core (10%): Steer the organization toward an AI-augmented future and "Clean Core" architecture. Evaluate and implement emerging technologies (e.g., SAP Rise, Joule) where they provide a competitive advantage.

Non-Negotiable Requirements

  • S/4HANA Mastery: Proven track record of leading at least one large-scale S/4HANA Finance implementation through a successful go-live (full lifecycle management, not just design/planning).
  • Client-Side SI Management: Extensive experience managing System Integrator (SI) relationships from the client perspective, with a deep understanding of the contract dynamics and delivery accountability.
  • Complex Landscape Expertise: Experience operating in a large-scale retail or comparable complex environment characterized by high transaction volumes and hundreds of non-SAP system interfaces.
  • Earned Credibility: A leader who is comfortable challenging long-tenured team members and established processes through deep technical expertise and "earned credibility," not simply by relying on their title.

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

  • Compressed Delivery Advocate: Hands-on experience changing how a team works through automation and agile transformation. We are looking for someone who has achieved faster delivery cycles through engineering discipline, not just someone who believes it is possible.
  • Track record of leading large-scale, finance-led ERP transformations, specifically utilizing SAP S/4HANA Central Finance (CFIN) in a 'sidecar' architecture to drive legacy SAP ECC retirement within a complex retail environment.
  • Technical Governance: Deep, practical understanding of transport governance and testing automation at a level where you can guide the team’s daily work and solve technical bottlenecks.
  • Offshore Accountability: Expert at managing on/near/offshore augmentation teams, with a proven model for structuring accountability and maintaining high standards in a global delivery model.
  • Modern SAP Vision: Understanding of the significance of a "Clean Core" and experience with SAP Rise or Joule is a significant plus.
  • Experience leading organizations that balance Clean Core strategies with necessary custom code development, including governance of enhancements such as RICEFW objects.
  • Planning & Forecasting Platforms: Proven track record of building scalable technology platforms that empower business units to perform complex forecasting, demand planning, and financial scenario modeling.
  • AI Exposure: Demonstrated experience in successfully integrating AI tooling (e.g., code generation, AI-assisted QA, predictive defect tracking) into the software development lifecycle (SDLC) for SAP platforms.
