Your opportunity to make a real impact and shape the future of financial services is waiting for you. Let’s push the boundaries of what's possible together.
As a Senior Director of Software Engineering at JPMorganChase within the Card Technology organization, you lead multiple technical areas, manage the activities of multiple departments, and collaborate across technical domains. Your expertise is applied cross-functionally to drive the adoption and implementation of technical methods within various teams and aid the firm in remaining at the forefront of industry trends, best practices, and technological advances.

Job Responsibilities
  • Deliver the enterprise vision and multi-year roadmap for continuous integration and continuous delivery, release engineering, and environment automation, including operating model, standards, and measurable outcomes (speed, stability, quality, developer experience).
  • Lead cross-portfolio platform engineering delivery by aligning teams to build scalable pipeline frameworks, reusable components, and automation services that standardize delivery patterns.
  • Translate business and engineering needs into end-to-end architecture and engineering solutions, producing reference architectures and standards, documenting trade-offs, and driving alignment through architecture reviews and governance.
  • Define and deliver environment lifecycle management across development, test, stage, and pre-production, enabling standardized, repeatable, self-service provisioning through infrastructure as code and configuration automation.
  • Coach and lead engineering teams through execution by setting technical direction and success metrics, running design reviews, removing blockers, and ensuring delivery milestones are met.
  • Partner with site reliability engineering and production management, security, and risk and control to ensure resilience, auditability, compliance, and security-by-design are embedded across tooling and processes.
  • Establish and enforce release governance and engineering standards, including change controls, artifact management, versioning, dependency management, and approval workflows.
  • Drive operational excellence for continuous integration and continuous delivery and environment platforms through reliability engineering, observability, incident readiness, continuous improvement, and clear platform performance reporting (lead time, deployment frequency, mean time to recovery, pipeline reliability, environment availability, adoption).
  • Modernize pipelines with automated quality and security gates (testing, policy checks, scanning), progressive delivery patterns where appropriate, and automated rollback capabilities.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership in Java and Python where needed (critical components, integrations, prototypes), and optimize build and release performance (caching, parallelization, dependency resolution) while strengthening software supply chain controls (secrets, integrity, access, signing, and provenance).

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experience; 5+ years leading technologists to solve complex technical problems within your domain.
  • Demonstrated ownership of continuous integration and continuous delivery and release engineering at scale (platform approach, templates and frameworks, standards, adoption across teams).
  • Strong technical depth in Java and Python (ability to guide architecture and implementation, review designs and code, and unblock teams).
  • Proven expertise in environment management and environment automation (provisioning, configuration, lifecycle, repeatability).
  • Strong understanding of the software development life cycle, branching strategies, artifact repositories, versioning, and deployment and release patterns.
  • Experience driving reliability, observability, and operational readiness for platform services with measurable operational outcomes (lead time, deployment frequency, mean time to recovery, availability, adoption).
  • Ability to influence and align senior stakeholders with clear communication and crisp decision-making in ambiguous environments.
  • Experience partnering with site reliability engineering and production management, security, and risk and control to embed resilience, auditability, compliance, and security-by-design across tooling and processes.
  • Hands-on or strongly proven platform experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery and release tooling (for example, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab pipelines, Azure DevOps).
  • Experience with continuous delivery and orchestration platforms (for example, Argo, Spinnaker, Harness, Flux) and artifact and dependency management (for example, Artifactory, Nexus; Maven and Gradle; Python package management).
  • Experience implementing development, security, and operations controls and software supply chain controls (for example, static application security testing, dynamic application security testing, software composition analysis, software bill of materials generation, secrets management, artifact signing, and provenance).

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience with container platforms and orchestration (for example, Kubernetes, OpenShift) and large-scale distributed runtime environments.
  • Experience building standardized “golden paths” and self-service developer platforms that improve developer onboarding and consistency.
  • Experience designing and scaling reusable pipeline frameworks and components across multiple portfolios or lines of business.
  • Experience implementing progressive delivery patterns (for example, canary releases and blue-green deployments) and automated rollback at scale.
  • Demonstrated success modernizing legacy continuous integration and continuous delivery and environment tooling with minimal disruption and clear adoption outcomes.
  • Experience improving build and release performance using caching, parallelization, and dependency optimization across large codebases.
  • Background delivering platforms in regulated and controlled environments with strong change discipline and evidence-based audit readiness.
