The Position
The Senior Director, Research Systems will report to the Flagship Vice President of Enterprise Applications. This role is responsible for overseeing the IT infrastructure and operations for Flagship's laboratory environments, ensuring the seamless acquisition, storage, and transfer of research data from laboratory instruments. The role also provides strategic leadership and oversight of service delivery for Flagship’s research applications. The role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to define business systems roadmaps and manage IT processes.
Specific Responsibilities
- Laboratory IT Services: Oversee the implementation and operation of IT infrastructure and services for laboratory environments, ensuring the seamless acquisition, storage, and transfer of research data from laboratory instruments. Manage a team of FTEs and MSPs to provide engineering support.
- Research Applications: Implement and support research applications used in the acquisition and analysis of raw research data to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of research activities.
- Collaboration: Work closely with scientists, researchers, and other stakeholders to understand their IT needs and provide solutions that support their research objectives.
- Data Management: Ensure the proper management and security of research data, including data storage, backup, and retrieval processes according to FAIR principles.
- Vendor Management: Manage relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure the delivery of high-quality IT services and support for research applications.
- Ensure that R&D applications are properly validated, documented, and
- maintained throughout their lifecycle.
- Provide training and support to end-users of R&D applications, ensuring that
- they are proficient in using the systems.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent experience in IT or life science related field.
- Demonstrated experience and success in applications or systems design and implementation in life sciences supporting laboratory users and laboratory systems software.
- 7+ years work experience with digital solution engineering (e.g. service management, user training, end user support, and end user documentation).
- Strong knowledge of life science R&D processes, including biology, translational sciences & research, and DMPK/Toxicology.
- Experience in managing projects, including project planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Ability to adapt to increasing scope and complexity of work brought on by growth/change and helps others manage through change.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep technical knowledge in technology domain areas (e.g. Laboratory Management Software, Electronic Laboratory Notebooks)
- Demonstrated use of scientific programming software and/or languages (e.g. Python, SQL, Java) to integrate 3 party applications (e.g. ELN<>LIMS, Inventory Registration<>ELN)
