Senior Director - Product & Platform Engineering

Reports To: VP of Product & Engineering

The Senior Director of Product & Platform Engineering leads the teams responsible for Ferguson Home experiences and platform strategy. This leader will drive the transformation from channel-specific solutions to a unified, scalable platform that can be leveraged across all digital channels. The role is accountable for balancing business continuity with strategic modernization, ensuring Ferguson home continues to deliver business value while establishing reusable capabilities and platform foundations that accelerate Ferguson's long-term digital transformation.

Location: This position may be remote or hybrid in accordance with company policy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Platform Strategy - Define and implement the roadmap for unified platform, establishing reusable customer-facing capabilities that can be used across digital channels
  • Business Continuity & Ferguson Home Delivery - Lead engineering teams responsible for Ferguson Home ensuring uninterrupted delivery of business capabilities, platform stability, and operational excellence while supporting modernization initiatives.
  • Platform Modernization - Drive engineering and modernization efforts to consolidate fragmented channel-specific capabilities into a unified platform through shared services, reusable UI components, common experience APIs, and headless architecture patterns.
  • Architecture & Engineering Excellence - Provide technical leadership for modern web and mobile architecture, performance engineering, observability, accessibility, security, CI/CD, and engineering quality practices.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration - Partner closely with Product Management, UX, Architecture, Platform Engineering, and Business partners to align modernization priorities with customer needs and business objectives.
  • Talent Development - Build and mentor Directors, Engineering Managers, Principal Engineers, and engineering teams while developing organizational capabilities required to support both current business operations and future platform transformation.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • 15+ years of software engineering and technology leadership experience, with at least 7+ years leading multiple engineering teams and people leaders.
  • Proven track record leading large-scale digital transformation, customer experience modernization, and platform consolidation while maintaining business continuity
  • Demonstrated success delivering customer-facing digital products and experiences at scale across web and mobile channels.
  • Solid understanding of customer engagement and journeys across digital channels and implementing reusable capabilities that can be leveraged across multiple channels and customer touchpoints.
Technical Stack:
  • Deep expertise in modern web technologies and digital experience platforms (React, Node.js, REST API, Event based).
  • Experience with API-first architectures, BFF (Backend-for-Frontend) patterns, micro-frontends, and modern integration frameworks.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, CI/CD pipelines, observability platforms, performance engineering, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Experience integrating customer-facing applications with enterprise services.
Architecture & Engineering Leadership:
  • Good understanding of scalable digital architecture and modern software engineering practices.
  • Experience establishing engineering standards, governance models, and reusable technology patterns across multiple teams.
  • Ability to evaluate and introduce emerging technologies that improve customer experience, engineering productivity, and platform scalability.
  • Experience driving engineering excellence across performance, accessibility, reliability, security, and operational maturity.
Leadership Skills:
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate technical strategies to business and technology customers.
  • Proven ability to lead organizations through significant technology and organizational change.
  • Demonstrated success building, mentoring, and scaling high-performing engineering teams.
  • Ability to align multi-functional collaborators around shared priorities, roadmaps, and customer outcomes.
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to balance short-term business needs and long-term strategic investments.
Success Measures:
  • Successful delivery of Ferguson Home business priorities while advancing the platform modernization roadmap.
  • Increased adoption of shared capabilities across digital channels.
  • Faster time-to-market for customer-facing features and digital experiences.
  • Improved customer experience, engagement, and platform performance metrics.
  • Reduced channel-specific technology and increased platform reuse.
  • Development of a high-performing engineering organization capable of supporting future growth and transformation.

Actual pay rate may vary depending upon location. The estimated pay range for this position is below. The specific rate will depend on a candidate’s qualifications and prior experience.

$15,050.00 - $25,083.34

Estimated Ranges displayed are Monthly for Salaried roles OR Hourly for all other roles.

This role is Bonus or Incentive Plan eligible.
