About the Role

UserTesting is seeking an experienced Senior Director of Operations, Infrastructure & Developer Experience to lead infrastructure, platform operations, and developer productivity. This role combines deep technical expertise with organizational leadership, driving the evolution of our cloud-native environments, CI/CD pipelines, and developer experience.

Reporting to the VP of Architecture, Infrastructure & Developer Experience (DX), this leader will ensure engineering teams operate with world-class velocity, reliability, and efficiency. The Senior Director will define strategies and frameworks that support scalability, operational excellence, and seamless developer workflows across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Infrastructure Leadership: Drive the strategy, design, and operations of UserTesting’s cloud infrastructure (primarily AWS), ensuring scalability, security, performance, and cost efficiency.

  • Engineering Operations: Oversee CI/CD pipeline strategy and execution, defining best practices for build, release, and deployment automation to maximize engineering productivity and platform reliability.

  • Developer Experience: Champion the internal developer journey by building intuitive tools, streamlined workflows, and efficient platforms that enable teams to deliver high-quality software quickly and consistently.

  • Operational Excellence: Define and enforce SLAs, monitoring, observability, and incident management processes to ensure platform resilience and reliability.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, security, and product leadership to align infrastructure and operations with strategic priorities, compliance needs, and business objectives.

  • Team Development: Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of infrastructure and DevOps engineers, fostering a culture of technical rigor, collaboration, and innovation.

  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay at the forefront of cloud, DevOps, and platform engineering practices to evolve systems and ensure UserTesting remains competitive and future-ready

Qualifications
  • 12+ years in software engineering, infrastructure, or operations, including 5+ in senior leadership.

  • Deep AWS expertise (networking, compute, storage, security, observability, cost).

  • Strong background in distributed systems, containers (Kubernetes, ECS), and IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation).

  • Proven ability to scale infra/ops teams and design CI/CD pipelines in SaaS environments.

  • Experience managing enterprise vendors (e.g., AWS, Datadog).

  • Knowledge of governance, compliance, and cloud security best practices.

  • Excellent communication skills; able to link technical work to business goals.
