Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Partner, Origination and Corporate Development, the Senior Director, Operations and Strategy will partner with the Executive Partner to help drive the Flagship-wide goals in Origination. The Senior Director will be responsible for implementing the evolving strategic agenda for Origination across the six Pioneering Business Units that are responsible for company ideation and development, which includes help support the development and implementation of portfolio wide tracking and oversight, operational excellence in support of Origination activities.

Specific Responsibilities 

• Help ensure scientific and operational excellence to maximize value across Flagship’s early company development.
• Facilitate activities associated with company stage gates and develop systems for understanding and tracking Origination pipeline including advancing outcomes of regular portfolio review.
• Support increase in cross-company and inter-PBU collaboration. Currently building pipeline of activity across stages of awareness, leverage and collaboration, defining heuristics for each stage and supporting identification and known areas of opportunity.
• Elevate PBU and Functional interface to enable efficiency and effectiveness of Flagship’s innovation engine. Activities include advancing functional excellence project and other ongoing efforts.
• Drive effective and efficient governance for Origination stakeholders in partnership with PBU leadership and Flagship leadership. 
• Ensure operational success and effective decision-making for PBU Leaders and their early-stage companies in highly matrixed environment. Support NewCo to GrowthCo in concert with PBU governance framework (e.g., Origination and Growth leads) 

As Flagship continues to maximize its breadth and scale, new opportunities for influence and impact will likely emerge and will be considered

Key Qualifications and Attributes

• Facile in a matrixed environment, comfortable with ambiguity
• Deep relevant experience in industry or academia that allow for deep influencing of internal senior teams and Origination team members
• 7+ years of experience working in life science companies or consulting firm preferred 
• Sophisticated collaborator and communicator
• Ability to drive complex projects with multiple stakeholders to completion
• Engineering or Science background with ability to be value added interface with FSP PBUs (Ph.D. preferred) 
• Passion for pioneering impact and value creation in the life sciences space based upon delivering human and planet health benefits
