Job Summary

FORTNA is seeking an IT Project and Portfolio Management Office (PPMO) Leader who oversees the entire lifecycle of IT enabled projects using portfolio, project, and organizational change management disciplines. The candidate oversees the intake of new project requests, the preparation of evaluation-ready project proposals and business cases, and the execution of approved projects by IT project managers.

This includes strategic planning, prioritization, and effective collaboration with business leaders to successfully deliver complex technology enabled projects in time and on budget to meet FORTNA's goals, values, and objectives.

As a member of FORTNA’s IT Leadership team, the candidate is a natural communicator and experienced leader. This is a highly visible position with significant impact on how FORTNA leverages technology to effectively enable business processes.

The IT PPMO Leader is a proven leader and has a successful PPMO governance track record.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Partner with business and fellow technology leaders to identify business needs, articulate new project ideas and prioritize projects based on potential value, impact and strategic alignment.
  • Effectively govern portfolio of projects across multiple programs of major significance to the organization.
  • Forecast, acquire and utilize the necessary resources and skills required for project delivery.
  • Present accurate representations of project progress, health, risks across the entire portfolio to executive team.
  • Mentor and develop team members, share knowledge, establish and communicate best practices.
  • Increase maturity of existing IT PPMO capabilities.
  • Provides strong leadership to the IT project management and portfolio team, ensuring successful on-time and on-budget delivery of projects.
  • Direct the development and implementation of project management methodologies and governance ensuring proper application throughout the entire project lifecycle.
  • Provide proactive engagement and consultation to fellow technology leaders with respect to department projects and project management needs.
  • Participate as an IT senior leader in the development and implementation of the FORTNA’s IT strategy.
  • Remain abreast of developments and best practices in the project management domain and build relationships with external providers and industry experts to bring the most current thinking to FORTNA.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in management information systems, computer science or related field required.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in project and portfolio environments.
  • Proven ability to build and lead a high performing team, coach and mentor team members.
  • Strong understanding of project and portfolio management methodologies, OCM, and agile techniques. · High-level communication, interpersonal skills and ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with project managers, teams, vendor and other stakeholders. This includes the ability to compose and present business and technical material to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to influence without authority.
  • High level analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to investigate complex issues and make informed decisions when written guidelines are not available.
  • Ability to navigate a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously without losing attention to detail and execution quality.
  • Ability to work under pressure while faced with problems and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to conduct research into project and portfolio management issues and products as required.
  • Regular travel to FORTNA locations is required depending on project phase, scope, and regional focus.
