At Compass, our mission is to help everyone find their place in the world. Founded in 2012, we’re revolutionizing the real estate industry with our end-to-end platform that empowers residential real estate agents to deliver exceptional service to seller and buyer clients.

Data is at the heart of everything we do. Our Data & Analytics organization is integral to the success of Compass, driving strategic initiatives and empowering stakeholders to exceed their goals. As our data capabilities evolve, we’re tackling more sophisticated challenges and providing deeper insights than ever before.

We're looking for a strategic-minded Senior Director of Data Science & Machine Learning to elevate our capabilities. This is a rare opportunity to harness data's power and create substantial leverage across our vast array of public and proprietary data sources. We need someone exceptional—an intrepid innovator who can uncover hidden opportunities and generate predictive insights that drive action.

Who You Are: You’re an organized powerhouse who thrives on managing multiple large-scale initiatives simultaneously. You’re a “data native,” an explorer of the unknown, adept at linking your problem-solving skills to critical business challenges. Results matter more to you than titles or degrees. You’re passionate about real estate and are ready to transform the lives of our agents, who are some of the brightest entrepreneurs in the industry. You communicate clearly and effectively, engaging with analytics, engineering, finance, operations, and executive stakeholders with ease. You excel at building consensus, establishing prioritization rationale, and regularly communicating project status, research findings, and resolutions. You embody the Compass Entrepreneurship Principles.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and grow a dynamic team of data scientists and analysts.
  • Own the strategy and technical execution for predictive modeling and research initiatives.
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities where data science and machine learning can significantly impact Compass’s OKRs and enhance the success of our real estate agents, sales managers, and other regional staff in their local markets.
  • Stay ahead of the curve on emerging AI, ML, and data technologies; educate and share insights across the Data & Analytics organization.
  • Collaborate with senior business leaders, including C-level executives, to align data initiatives with business strategy.
  • Partner with Engineering & Analytics leadership to consistently evaluate and prioritize a cross-functional roadmap that delivers the highest impact to users.
  • Develop scalable analytic solutions and products that deliver tangible value to our stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field; PhD is a plus.
  • 8+ years of experience in applied machine learning, data science, AI, or analytics consulting, with 3-5 years in management, recruiting, coaching and talent development.
  • Proven expertise in advanced analytics syntax (Python, R, SQL, etc.) and a strong command of ML frameworks. Experience with Spark and Scala is a plus.
  • Deep understanding of data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). Strong preference for candidates w/ bespoke visualization experience using ds.js, bokeh, plotly, etc.
  • Strong background in statistical modeling, experimental design, and predictive analytics.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with a knack for translating complex concepts into actionable insights.
  • A proactive mindset and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment.
  • Proven ability to explain complex ML/AI concepts and results to non-technical business users

Compensation: The base pay range for this position is $254,400-$286,200 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Bonuses and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of benefits. Base pay is based on market location. Minimum wage for the position will always be met.

Perks that You Need to Know About:

Participation in our incentive programs (which may include eligible cash, equity, or commissions). Plus paid vacation, holidays, sick time, parental leave, and recharge leave; medical, tele-health, dental and vision benefits; 401(k) plan; flexible spending accounts (FSAs); commuter program; life and disability insurance; Maven (a support system for new parents); Carrot (fertility benefits); UrbanSitter (caregiver referral network); Employee Assistance Program; and pet insurance.

Do your best work, be your authentic self.
