The Position
This role reports directly to the Vice President of Enterprise Data & Advanced Analytics (ED&AA) and serves as a key member of the Novo Nordisk US Operations (USO) AI Center of Excellence (AI CoE). The individual will lead and manage a team of data and AI engineers and developers and is tasked with providing strategy and vision on the technical implementation, optimization, and deployment of AI/ML pipelines, AI/GenAI models and solutions, as well as analytics dashboards. They will collaborate with rest of the AI CoE and the broader ED&AA to achieve analytics and insight delivery speed and efficiency through automation and GenAI application development.
To help drive the AI CoE's mission, this role will manage, mentor, and expand a high-performing organization that: Attracts and cultivates essential skills needed for data & AI Engineering, GenAI development, and analytics automation and dashboarding, ensuring the team delivers insights to the business with speed and scale. Accelerates innovation by harnessing cutting-edge AI/GenAI technologies and developing AI/GenAI products to deliver high quality insights with speed and efficiency Promotes a culture of creativity and execution excellence, developing processes that drives standardization and efficiency.
Relationships
The role interacts with various levels of leadership within Novo Nordisk US Operations, serving as a key advisor to the cross-functional teams on AI development, consumption, and governance. This leader and their team work closely with various business functions across the Novo Nordisk US Operations, including ED&AA, IT, Ethics and Compliance, Commercial, Patient Services, CMR (Clinical, Medical, Regulatory), Finance, and Novo Nordisk global colleagues. Externally, this role interacts with and manages various vendors.
Essential Functions
  • Leadership and Management
    • Skilled communicator and collaborator with influence across functions
    • Strong business acumen; trusted advisor on AI/GenAI implementation and analytics automation & visualization technologies
    • Active contributor to ED&AA leadership-shaping strategy, culture, and vision
    • Build and evolve the AI Engineering & Automation team to meet internal and market needs
    • Lead a high-performing, collaborative team environment
    • Core member of the AI Center of Excellence, guiding AI initiatives from a technology perspective
  • Technology
    • Expand GenAI, Data & AI engineering, and analytics automation and visualization capabilities by developing top talent
    • Foster a culture of innovation and excellence for the development of AI/GenAI solutions and analytics dashboards
    • Oversee competency models, career paths, onboarding, training, and rotations
    • Partner closely with IT on AI technology evaluation, drive strategy and vision for AI and analytics technology decisions, including data science/AI platforms and analytics & visualization tools
    • Partner with Data Strategy, Data Science, and IT teams to ensure a strong data and technology foundation
    • Engage senior leaders to drive strategic technology transformations

Physical Requirements
10-20% overnight travel required.
Development Of People
Supervisory. Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.
Qualifications
  • Education & Experience
    • Bachelors or graduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
    • 15+ years of relevant experience
    • Proven track record in developing GenAI solutions and AI/ML pipelines
  • Leadership
    • 10+ years team management experience
    • Skilled in mentoring, team development, and cross-functional leadership
    • Technical & Analytical Expertise
    • Proven track record in building and deploying data pipelines to create features and analytical datasets required by data scientists for model building
    • Proficiency in developing large language model (LLM) based applications. Extensive knowledge in prompt engineering, including implementing and testing prompts to ensure GenAI model interacts correctly within the application
    • Proficiency in improving the performance and efficiency of AI/GenAI models and systems
    • Proficiency in MLOps and machine learning frameworks, including software tools and libraries
    • Ability to work with APIs and integrate AI functionalities into applications, such as chatbots
    • Knowledge of software development life cycle (SDLC)
    • Understanding of user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design principles
    • Experience with cloud platforms for deploying and scaling applications
    • Ability to deploy new tools for AI/Data Scientists as needed for exploration, experimentation, or new development

    • Experienced in managing multiple teams and workstreams with strategic alignment
    • Effective in fast-paced environments with a focus on quality and documentation
    • Skilled in change management and guiding teams through transitions
  • Communication & Collaboration
    • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills with clear ability to impact and influence without authority
    • Excellent at presenting complex technology concept to senior stakeholders
    • Creative problem-solver with a track record of process improvement
  • Industry Knowledge
    • Experience in AI/GenAI application development for healthcare is preferred

The base compensation range for this position is $ 181,670 to $ 317,920. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. This position is also eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance.
Novo Nordisk offers long-term incentive compensation and or company vehicles depending on the position's level or other company factors.
