The Senior Director, Accounting Finance Transformation will lead the modernization, governance, and execution of accounting processes supporting the organization’s technology ecosystem. This role owns enterprise transformation across technology accounting, financial systems, controls, policy, reporting, and data-enabled decision support. The Director will partner with Accounting, Finance, Technology, Procurement, Tax, Internal Controls, Audit, and business leadership to ensure technology-related accounting is accurate, scalable, compliant, and aligned to the broader finance transformation agenda.

What you will do:

  • Working alongside an external third party on financial transformation, this individual will set the strategic direction and operating model for technology accounting transformation, including software capitalization, cloud services, SaaS arrangements, internally developed software, hardware, implementation costs, licensing, maintenance, vendor obligations, and technology cost governance.
  • Own accounting policy application, process design, control governance, and operational accountability for technology accounting activities, ensuring alignment with applicable accounting standards, enterprise policies, audit expectations, and risk management objectives.
  • Lead cross-functional transformation with Technology, Finance, Procurement, Legal, Tax, Internal Controls, Audit, and business executives to create scalable workflows for purchasing, project intake, capitalization assessment, cost classification, accruals, amortization, impairment review, and reporting.
  • Advise senior leaders on the accounting implications of major technology investments, including cloud migrations, ERP enhancements, platform modernization, AI-enabled tools, cybersecurity programs, data infrastructure, and enterprise software implementations.
  • Translate complex technology strategies into accounting requirements, governance models, decision frameworks, and repeatable processes that improve consistency, transparency, controllership, and executive decision support.
  • Lead system-enabled process improvements across ERP, procurement, project portfolio management, fixed asset, contract management, workflow, and reporting platforms.
  • Champion automation, data quality, dashboards, reconciliations, and reporting enhancements to improve accuracy, close efficiency, visibility, and audit readiness.
  • Establish and maintain accounting position papers, control narratives, standard operating procedures, process maps, policy guidance, and training materials for technology accounting processes.
  • Provide leadership over monthly close, forecasting, budgeting, and management reporting for technology-related financial activity, ensuring data is complete, accurate, timely, and properly classified.
  • Serve as a primary leadership contact for Internal Audit and external auditors on technology accounting matters, including audit planning, testing, evidence requests, control reviews, and remediation.
  • Lead, coach, and develop accounting and finance professionals while defining transformation success metrics for process scalability, control effectiveness, adoption, and stakeholder satisfaction.
What we need from you:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Information Systems, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certification preferred.
  • Extensive experience in accounting, finance transformation, controllership, financial systems, technology accounting, or accounting operations, including leadership of complex cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strong technical understanding of accounting principles related to software, cloud computing, internally developed technology, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accruals, capitalization, amortization, impairment, and expense classification.
  • Proven ability to lead enterprise-scale transformation, improve controls, document accounting conclusions, influence operating model design, and translate business requirements into scalable finance processes.
  • Experience partnering with senior leaders across Technology, Finance, Procurement, Tax, Legal, Audit, and business functions.
  • Demonstrated people leadership capability, including the ability to coach teams, build capability, set priorities, and hold stakeholders accountable for execution.
  • Strong executive communication, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, including the ability to present complex accounting, systems, and transformation topics clearly to senior leadership.
  • CPA, MBA, PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent professional certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading transformation across ERP and finance platforms such as SAP, Oracle, Workday, NetSuite, Coupa, ServiceNow, Adaptive, Anaplan, or similar systems.
  • Experience with technology project portfolio management, software development lifecycle processes, cloud transformation, data platforms, AI-enabled tools, or enterprise technology cost governance.
  • Background in financial services, technology, professional services, or another complex, regulated environment.
  • Experience building or sponsoring automation, dashboards, workflow tools, reporting solutions, governance models, or matrixed transformation programs with accountability for process outcomes, control effectiveness, and stakeholder adoption.
