THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer II to join ActBlue and play a pivotal role in our Developer Platform Team (focused on Developer Experience). In this position, you'll work at the intersection of all Engineering teams to design, implement, and enhance the systems that power our software development lifecycle. You'll drive deployment frequency, lead time for changes, and system reliability, and enable our innovation initiatives to thrive. You'll have the opportunity to shape how our engineers build, test, and deploy applications while providing technical leadership that impacts the entire engineering organization.

Our engineering and product organization consists of 75+ professionals organized into cross-functional teams that operate independently while aligning with broader organizational goals. Our tech stack includes Ruby on Rails, Postgres, React, TypeScript, and GraphQL on the application side, with AWS cloud infrastructure, compute resources in EKS, and CI/CD tools including Github Actions, CircleCI, Datadog, Terraform, and Flux.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Empower engineers to ship faster and more confidently by modernizing our build, test, and deploy systems for improved reliability and reduced friction
  • Accelerate production issue resolution by designing scalable monitoring and observability systems that put critical information at developers' fingertips
  • Accelerate company-wide product initiatives by collaborating with Product leaders to deliver mission-critical infrastructure that supports seamless launches and compelling demos
  • Drive continuous platform evolution by establishing feedback channels with engineering teams that turn insights into measurable improvements in tool adoption and effectiveness
  • Mentor the teams junior engineers, contributing to their technical growth and development
  • Contribute to technical discussions that shape company-wide architecture decisions
  • Championing design patterns that improve the maintainability, scalability, and reliability of our platform
  • Document systems and processes to ensure knowledge sharing and operational continuity

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 5-7 years of professional DevOps or Platform Engineering experience with a focus on strengthening cross-team relationships, and building developer tooling
  • Strong expertise with Kubernetes (particularly EKS), container orchestration, and cloud infrastructure management in AWS
  • Deep experience with monitoring and observability tools and practices, particularly Datadog
  • Proven track record leading implementation of CI/CD pipelines that improve developer productivity and software quality
  • Experience mentoring other engineers and communicating complex technical concepts effectively
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and translate developer needs into product requirements
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with complex distributed systems
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code practices using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar
  • A collaborative, inclusive working style: You elevate your team by supporting peers while maintaining technical rigor
  • Comfort working within a distributed team environment with many remote colleagues
  • Passion for continual learning and sharing knowledge with the team

  • Experience with Ruby on Rails + React applications, service oriented architectures, and GraphQL is a plus

This posting is for a full-time, remote, salaried position. Travel may be required on a limited basis to attend all-staff and departmental retreats (1-2 times per year). Additional travel may be required for select positions.

Work Schedule: 

This role requires availability during established, regular business hours (Mon-Fri).

Work Environment: 

Employees can expect to work with distributed teams across all U.S. time zones. Our roles require extended technology usage, and proficiency with virtual communication tools such as Zoom and Slack. Regular attendance in virtual meetings is inherent to every position.

Salary Range Details:

Salary Range: $173,676 - $192,209 - $210,741 

ActBlue is committed to consistent compensation practices across our organization. Final salary offers will take into account factors such as candidate experience, interview performance and current team salary parity.
