Working at Atlassian
Atlassians can choose where they work - whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
Confluence is shifting from being just a knowledge base product to a collaborative workspace for everyone. In this role, you'll oversee our Flywheel and Integrations group, which:
  1. Aims to onboard and activate new users, guiding them on how Confluence can enhance their workflows and enable their teams to work better.
  2. Helps us create engaging, integrated experiences with other Atlassian products.

We're on the lookout for a high-craft leader who can drive a top-notch, consumer-grade experience standard. In this role, you'll guide a team of product designers, aligning them with stakeholders, and ensuring the team delivers high-quality, impactful design work that supports business objectives and elevates user experience. We are looking for a high-craft leader who can hold a high, consumer-grade experience bar.
What You'll Do
  • Manage and mentor a team of product and content designers, fostering a supportive environment that encourages craft excellence and career growth.
  • Oversee complex design initiatives spanning multiple workstreams, maintaining a high-quality standard and removing blockers to ensure timely delivery.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Product Management, and Research to deliver cohesive, end-to-end product experiences.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across the Atlassian product portfolio to drive alignment and support for design initiatives.
  • Define and deliver conceptual models and incremental design improvements for core components, focusing on consistent and valuable user experiences.
  • Champion design best practices, inclusive design, and pattern adoption, and drive continuous improvement of processes to support quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure high-quality, outcome-focused deliverables by effectively managing and prioritizing multiple workstreams.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the Atlassian Home ecosystem and how design decisions impact the broader Atlassian products.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback, fostering a high-performing, balanced, and diverse design team.
  • Promote alignment and build trust across cross-functional teams, clearly communicating complex issues and fostering collaboration.
  • Lead your team through change and ambiguity, ensuring consistent delivery and adapting to evolving priorities.

What We're Looking For
  • Experience: 12+ years in product design with 5+ years managing teams within a tech or SaaS environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in interaction design, prototyping, content design, or visual design, with a passion for delivering exceptional user experiences.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners, align stakeholders, and influence product strategy.
  • Proven track ability to craft compelling experience visions that drive change and innovation.
  • Clear, effective communicator with a strong ability to present and defend design decisions and direction.
  • A natural mentor with a talent for developing and retaining diverse, high-performing teams.

Compensation
At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience. In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:
Zone A: $216,900 - $283,175
Zone B: $195,300 - $254,975
Zone C: $180,900 - $236,175
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
