At Underdog, we make sports more fun.

Our thesis is simple: build the best products and we’ll build the biggest company in the space, because there’s so much more to be built for sports fans. We’re just over five years in, and we’re one of the fastest-growing sports companies ever, most recently valued at $1.3B. And it’s still the early days.

We’ve built and scaled multiple games and products across fantasy sports, sports betting, and prediction markets, all united in one seamless, simple, easy to use, intuitive and fun app.

Underdog isn’t for everyone. One of our core values is give a sh*t. The people who win here are the ones who care, push, and perform. If that’s you, come join us.

Winning as an Underdog is more fun.

We’re looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our growing Data Science team and lead our marketing measurement models and analytics framework. As our marketing investment continues to grow, the need to measure, optimize, and forecast user acquisition performance is more important than ever.

  • Develop scenario testing tools for marketing planning and spend simulation.
  • Automate recurring campaign reporting and performance diagnostics.
  • Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Who you are
  • A degree in Statistics, Economics, Math, Computer Science, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data science or analytics, with a strong focus on marketing or growth.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining Marketing Mix Models (MMM) or equivalent budget optimization frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Bayesian modeling, hierarchical models, or probabilistic programming.
  • Proficiency in Python for modeling and SQL for data manipulation.
  • Strong understanding of experimentation design, incrementality, and causal inference.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based tools and data workflows (e.g., AWS, GCP, dbt, Airflow).
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional partners with compelling, data-backed recommendations.
Even better if you have
  • Experience with LTV, attribution, or uplift models in a UA or growth setting.
  • Prior work in consumer tech, sports betting, fantasy sports, or mobile gaming.
  • Experience with marketing platforms or MMP tools (e.g., Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager, AppsFlyer).

Our target starting base salary range for this position is between $150,000 and $180,000, plus target equity. The starting base salary will depend on a number of factors including the candidate’s skills and experience, among other things.

What we can offer you:

  • 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave
  • Home office stipend
  • A connected virtual-first culture with a highly engaged distributed workforce
  • 5% 401k match, FSA, company paid health, dental, vision plan options for employees and dependents

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
