Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist for a Data Science Captain role to own the analytical and technical execution of two highly visible, high‑impact portfolios:

  • Member Onboarding
  • Customer Experience (CX) improvement

Member onboarding is one of the most critical moments in the member lifecycle, shaping first impressions, driving early engagement, and acting as a powerful predictor of long‑term retention and loyalty. Because onboarding touches every member, improvements in this space have enterprise‑wide impact, directly influencing satisfaction, digital adoption, service utilization, and member retention.

In parallel, this role owns Customer Experience analytics for the Commercial line of business, focusing on reducing friction, improving satisfaction, and strengthening ongoing member relationships. Together, these portfolios enable CVS Health to retain members by delivering consistently better experiences from day one and beyond.

As the Data Science Captain, this individual owns how onboarding and CX solutions are designed, built, and measured, partnering closely with the Squad Lead and cross‑functional stakeholders. The role requires strong technical leadership, an entrepreneurial mindset, and the ability to mentor other data scientists while operating effectively in a matrixed environment.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in advanced analytics, experimentation, causal inference, and AI/ML (including LLMs), along with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills. They are comfortable navigating ambiguity, surfacing solution options and trade‑offs, and ensuring analytical rigor while keeping retention and experience outcomes front and center.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in advanced analytics, decision science, applied AI/ML.
  • 3+ years of experience in one or more areas of advanced modeling: predictive analytics, reinforcement learning, NLP, LLM, or causal inference.
  • 3+ years programming skills in Python and SQL, with a focus on managing large and complex analytical projects from data exploration, model building, performance evaluation and testing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven records of applying analytical rigor and statistical methods to analyze large amounts of data, using causal inference and other advanced statistical techniques.
  • Familiarity with BI tools (Tableau) and analytics engineering (GCP or other modern data platforms).
  • 3+ years of experience designing and deploying data science solutions in member or customer experience environments, with a focus on engagement, satisfaction, or retention.
  • 3+ years of experience in the healthcare industry, with a strong interest in improving outcomes through intelligent decision systems.
  • Hands‑on experience with LLMs, generative AI, or conversational AI frameworks (e.g., LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI, RAG).

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Analytics, Engineering, or related discipline. Master's degree preferred.
